McGovern Wins Again as Swim & Dive Earns Most Patriot Invitational Victories Since 2006

FAIRFAX, Va. - Senior Isabel McGovern earned her second individual victory for American University swimming & diving at the George Mason Patriot Invitational, helping the Eagles bring home their most wins since 2006. Overall, AU earned three top-five and seven top-10 finishes on the fourth and final day of the meet. 

Notable Women's Results
  • McGovern's second individual win came in the 200 fly after her 100 fly victory one day ago. Her time of 2:02.81 in the finals was just a hundredth of a second off her own PR in the event.
  • Sophomore Claire Mosher placed fifth for the women in the 200 fly with a PR of 2:05.97 that ranks 10th all-time at AU. Freshman Madison Stover and senior Veronica Lester finished 19th and 20th in the 200 fly, respectively.
  • In the women's 1,650 free, junior Kate Williams posted AU's best time in nearly 20 years, taking fourth place with a PR 17:03.71 that ranks second all-time behind Hall of Famer Meghan Thiel.
  • Sophomores Marin Priddy and Piper Crosby both posted PRs in the prelims of the women's 100 free that advanced them into the A final. Priddy went 51.35 to move up to sixth all-time at AU in the event, while Crosby went 51.57 to now stand in seventh all-time. In the finals, Crosby took seventh and Priddy was eighth.
  • Sophomore Brooke Vos and freshman Ana Senn placed 15th and 18th, respectively, in the women's 200 back.
  • Sophomore Grace Gilbert was a C finalist in the women's 100 free, and won that final in 52.21 which is a PR that moves her from 15th all-time into a tie for 14th all-time.
  • Senior Grace Netz advanced to the B final in the women's 200 breaststroke and then knocked nearly three seconds off her prelims time, finishing 15th overall in 2:23.04.
  • Sophomore Mallorie Jeremiah, junior Jordan Carpentieri, and junior Marley Reese all advanced to the C final in the women's 200 breaststroke, and took first, second, and third, respectively, in that C final. Jeremiah improved nearly four seconds from the prelims, going 2:24.50, while Carpentieri improved by nearly three seconds with her time of 2:26.00.
  • The women's 400 free relay team of Priddy, Gilbert, freshman Lucy Penna, and Crosby, closed out the meet with a ninth-place finish in 3:28.50 which ranks eighth all-time at AU.
  • Overall, the women's team placed sixth of eight teams at the meet. The Eagles were just 14 points out of fifth place, and 34 points out of fourth.
Notable Men's Results
  • The Eagles had four finalists on the men's side in the 200 back, with freshman Nabil Elakari posting the best time in the finals of 1:54.45 to take 19th. Freshman Matias Garcia placed 21st, sophomore Ryan Pursley was 22nd, and junior Campbell Hall took 23rd.
  • Senior Daniel Coughlin earned a B final victory for the men in the 200 fly, going 1:51.54 for a PR that moves him from 11th all-time to 10th all-time at American. Senior Madan Morris placed 11th with a PR of 1:51.94 that improved on his own 12th-place standing all-time. Senior Ryan Tiffany was short of his PR but placed 13th overall in 1:52.20, and sophomore Cole Coffman went 1:52.43 in the prelims to rank 13th all-time at AU.
  • Overall, the men's team placed sixth of eight teams at the meet.
