WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The American University wrestling team went 1-2 at The Boilermakers Duals on Saturday, a quad meet held at Purdue University that saw AU face off against Northern Illinois, Buffalo, and the host team. Redshirt junior #28 Caleb Campos highlighted the individual performances for American, going 3-0 with a technical fall, pin, and major decision. 

Notable

• AU fell in the first dual of the day to Northern Illinois, 21-12. A decision from Coen Bainey, major decision from Leo Maestas, and tech fall from Campos kept the Eagles in it, but narrow losses in other bouts made the difference. 
• Colin Martin fell 2-1 at 141, Austin Craft lost 4-3, and Hunter Hohman dropped a match in sudden victory 6-5.
• The Eagles got out to blazing start in the second dual against Buffalo, as JJ Peace and Martin posted back-to-back major decisions to put AU in front 8-0. 
• #26 Raymond Lopez bounced back against Buffalo's Aaron Lanster at 141, using a third period takedown to grab an 11-8 lead that won him a tight match.
• After Buffalo won four straight bouts, Campos came up with a crucial pin of Marcus Petite to put American back in front 17-15. With the score already 10-1 in his favor behind three takedowns and an escape, Campos got Petite's back on the mat for the fall at 3:54.
• Freshman Caleb Close recorded his first collegiate win at 197, defeating Connor Scuilla with a takedown, escape, and riding time 5-2. 
• Emmanuel Ulrich closed out the victory at heavyweight, taking care of Jack McDonald 7-3. With the score 4-2 in the third period, Ulrich secured a takedown to separate himself late. 
• AU dropped the final dual to Purdue 34-10, but took away some positive showings against the Big 10 opponent. 
• Lopez defeated #21 Blake Boarman via pin in 3:56, the second time he's secured a fall against a ranked wrestler in just the first three weeks of this season. 
• Campos took down #27 James Rowley via major decision, jumping on him with two takedowns in the first period and never surrendering the lead from there.
