BETHLEHEM, Pa. - American University wrestling's Steve Fittery ('11) will be inducted into the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Hall of Fame with the Class of 2026. Fittery was a two-time All-American for the Eagles, placing in the top five at the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons.
Fittery finished a stellar career with a 67-5 overall record and a 32-1 mark in dual meets. He's etched his name all over the program's record book, standing in second in tech falls with 13, fourth in major decisions with 19 major, and eighth in pins with 22.
The 157-pounder was crowned the EIWA Champion at 157 pounds in 2011, one of 12 winners in program history. In 2010, he played a key role in helping lead Mark Cody's Eagles to a 5th place team finish at Nationals, the highest finish the Eagles have ever had.
Fittery also excelled in the classroom, earning first team NWCA Academic All-American all four years and graduating from AU with Cum Laude honors with degrees in Mathematics and Secondary Education. In 2011, he was recognized as American University's Male Student-Athlete of the Year. Fittery then turned his competitive spirit into an extremely successful coaching career, helping each of the American, Maryland, Lock Haven, and McDaniel programs produce NCAA All-Americans.
In 2016, he started FITS Wrestling Academy, helping hundreds of young wrestlers develop their skills and increase their passion for the sport. Fittery is a regular blood donor, has served as a tutor in inner-city schools, and has worked with Beat the Streets Baltimore. He currently lives in Lancaster County, Pa. and is pursuing a degree in nursing.
