Scouting the Eagles
  • The Eagles clinched the No. 1 seed for the Patriot League Championship and at least a share of the regular season title with a 3-1 win over Lehigh on Oct. 24. A win over Holy Cross on Saturday would secure the outright regular season title for the Eagles, who are the only undefeated team in the Patriot League with a 5-0 conference record thus far. Lafayette trails with a 5-1 record, having only lost to American earlier in the season.
  • American has outscored its Patriot League opponents 13-4 so far this season, earning clean sheets against both Boston U. and Colgate.
  • Most recently, American defeated nonconference opponent Delaware, 5-1, on Oct. 26, completing their nonconference slate and giving the Eagles a four-game win streak. The Eagles went 7-0 on the road this season.
  • In the matchup against Delaware, the Eagles had four different scorers. American was able to score at least once in every quarter, and all five of AU's goals were the result of penalty corners, upping their conversion rate for the season.
  • Sophie Willemse earned her second consecutive Patriot League Midfielder of the Week honor on Monday (Oct. 27) after scoring two goals against Delaware, the second being the game-winner. Against the Blue Hens, Willemse took three shots (all three of which were on target) and scored on two of those.
  • Jordan Reicher also earned a second consecutive Patriot League honor as Offensive Player of the Week, and her fourth honor this season. She opened the scoring for the Eagles against Lehigh and was AU's fourth scorer against Delaware. Reicher has a team-leading 11 goals this season, a conference-leading stat.
Scouting the Crusaders
  • The Crusaders are seeded fifth in the Patriot League going into their final regular season game, with a 6-9 record (2-3 Patriot League). Their record is tied with Boston University, but BU has the head-to-head advantage. Both a Terriers loss to Colgate and a Crusaders win against American is the only way for Holy Cross to claim the No. 4 seed in the PL tournament.
  • The Crusaders' last conference matchup was a 4-3 overtime win over Colgate. After Colgate tied the game with 1:10 remaining in the fourth quarter, freshman Martina di Gregorio Giralt sent a shot that deflected past Colgate's keeper for the win. The freshman picked up her first Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor for her game-winning goal.
  • On Sunday (Oct. 26), Holy Cross fell 0-2 against Maine. Sophomore goalkeeper Mia McCloskey recorded a season-high 14 saves in the game, and senior Megan Schienbein picked up her first defensive save of the season in the third quarter.
  • McCloskey earned her second consecutive Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week honor on Monday (Oct. 27) after making 22 saves in two games. She leads the Patriot League with 7.93 saves per game and 119 total saves.
