WASHINGTON – The American University cross country team swept Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors on Tuesday (Oct. 21), with
Shealyn Brochu earning her second honor of the season and
Emmett Engelhardt earning his first.
Brochu led the Eagles at the ECAC Championship (Oct. 17), placing 11th in the 235-person race with a 6k time of 21:29.8. She led the women's squad to a ninth place finish, a nine-place improvement from last year's ECAC Championship. Brochu has continued her streak of leading the Eagles, and
earned her first Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor on Oct. 7 after running a 6k PR of 21:09.5 to place sixth at the Paul Short Run (Oct. 3).
This is the first Patriot League honor for Engelhardt, who scored for the Eagles for the second time this season at the IC4A Championship (Oct. 17). He was the Eagles' fifth scorer and the fourth freshman in the race, placing 50th in the 225-person race with an 8k PR of 25:28.5. Engelhardt's performance helped the Eagles earn a fourth-place finish, a two-place improvement from last year's IC4A Championship.
