WASHINGTON – After a month on the road, American University's field hockey team returns home to Jacobs Complex to take on Lafayette and Villanova. Pushback between American and Lafayette is at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3 while the game between the Eagles and the Wildcats is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5.
The Leopards and the Eagles are the last two undefeated teams in Patriot League play and the Wildcats and American haven't squared off in almost 30 years.

Scouting the Eagles
- The Eagles are 4-4 so far this season and are coming off three consecutive wins. The squad is 2-0 in conference play after shutting out both Boston University (Sep. 19) and Colgate (Sep. 27) 2-0.
- Jordan Reicher earned Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week honors on Sep. 22 after goals against BU and Providence (Sep. 21). She scored the game-winning goal against BU and forced overtime against Providence.
- Agustina Roffo was named Midfielder of the Week, also having a two-goal weekend. She made her lone shot against BU count, putting it in the net. She ended the game against Providence with a game-winning goal in the second round of overtime.
- Ninthe Botman is the reigning Rookie of the Week after scoring both goals in AU's win against Colgate, both in the first half. This is Botman's second Rookie of the Week honor this season. The freshman is tied for second on the squad with Reicher in goals on the season with four.
- In Sunday's game against Colgate, American outshot Colgate 21-8 overall and 11-2 in shots on target. The Raiders, though, earned seven penalty corners to the Eagles' six.
- Pauline Gineste was only forced to make two saves on her way to the clean sheet. The defensive unit for American has allowed just one goal in the past three games.
Scouting the Leopards
- The Leopards are coming off a four-win game streak and a dominant 5-0 win against Dartmouth (Sep. 28). Freshman Rosalie van Gool led the team with two goals, three minutes apart and both on penalty corner rebounds.
- In the game against Dartmouth, Lafayette held the advantage in total shots (27-5) and penalty corners (7-1).
- This will be the 38th meeting between the Eagles and the Leopards. American leads the series 29-9 and holds a home field advantage, 17-1. The last time America faced Lafayette was at the 2024 Patriot League Championship final, where Lafayette edged out a 2-1 win in overtime.
- Lafayette is 7-3 so far this season, and matches AU with a 2-0 conference record, besting both Lehigh (Sep. 19) and Bucknell (Sep. 26).
- Lena Thedrian was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday (Sep. 29), assisting both goals in Lafayette's 2-1 win over Bucknell. On the defensive side, she kept the Bison to only five shots. With zero o goal and one corner. This is her second consecutive Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.
- Raffi Fragomeni is the reigning Goalkeeper of the Week for recording her fifth shutout of the season against Dartmouth and helping Lafayette to a 2-0 weekend.
- Lafayette leads the Patriot League in scoring with 25 goals so far this season.
Scouting the Wildcats
- The 'Cats head into Sunday's match at 3-6 on the season, fresh off an impressive weekend. They stunned #15 Saint Joe's in dramatic fashion, nabbing a 2-1 victory, and staked their claim over Pennsylvania with a gritty 1-0 victory over Temple.
- Freshman goalkeeper Sophie Volkel has been holding down the fort for the Wildcats. Last week, she led her team to an upset victory over Saint Joe's and posted her second shutout of the year against cross-town rival Temple. Across the weekend, she racked up 10 saves, boosting her season save percentage to 0.744, enough for third best in the Big East.
- Juniors Colleen Finnan and Gemma Lysaght also earned Big East Weekly Honor Roll recognition. Finnan powered the offense with two goals and an assist against Saint Joseph's, while Lysaght anchored the defense and chipped in an assist in Friday's win over Temple.
- Graduate student Ava Borkowski continues to spark Villanova's attack, leading the team with four goals, a mark that ranks ninth in the conference.
- The Cat's currently sit at No. 6 in the Big East standings with a 1-1 league record.
- It's a battle of the freshman, as American's Botman, Patriot League Rookie of the Week, faces Villanova's Sophie Volkel, Big East Rookie of the Week.
