Scouting the Eagles
- After the VCU Rams snapped the Eagles six-game win streak, they are now 7-5. Still a perfect, 3-0 in Patriot League play, the Eagles will face off with their first PL opponent since they took down Lafayette, 3-1, on Friday, Oct. 3. Most recently, the Eagles took on Towson and VCU, blanking the Tigers, 5-0, and falling in double overtime to the Rams 0-1.
- Before their game against VCU, the Eagles had scored in 10 of the last 12 quarters of game play and in the run of the previous seven games played, American has outscored its opponents 17-3 and earned four of its five clean sheets.
- Against Towson, Emilia Winkler was involved in all five goals. She assisted on the goals by Jordan Reicher, Sophie Willemse, Botman and Lotti Süme, and played a key part in the lead up to the goal by Elle Ridge.
- Freshman goalkeeper Teagan Harmon earned her first collegiate start against the Tigers, playing the entirety of the match, and with five saves earned the shutout–the Eagles' fifth and their fourth in six games.
- For their efforts over the week, two Eagles were named PL Players of the Week. Botman was tabbed Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, and Winkler was named Midfielder of the Week for her impact in the game against Towson.
- Botman scored in the first period of American's game against Towson, opening the scoring and getting the Eagles on the board early. In the third minute, a ball was swiped parallel across the mouth of the goal to an open Botman who put the Eagles up 1-nil to start the game. The freshman is now third on the team in goals scored (5) and has started all 12 games thus far this season.
- Winkler was integral to the Eagles' 5-0 win over Towson. The junior midfielder assisted on four goals and was a key part to the buildup of a fifth. Against VCU in the Eagles' double OT contest, Winkler played 67 of the 74 minutes of the game and was key to the Eagles both offensively and defensively and as part of the DPC unit refused to let any of the four penalty corners awarded against the Eagles this week result in a goal.
- Reicher and Agustina Roffo lead the Eagles in goals scored, and points, on the season. Reicher has eight goals, good enough for third in the league, and Roffo has six, seventh in the league. Botman, with her five, is 10th in the league.
Scouting the Bison
- The Bison are on a three-game win streak; they're 6-5 overall and 3-1 in Patriot League play. Their only loss in the League is a 1-2 overtime loss to Lafayette back in September. Most recently, they have wins over Michigan State (4-0), Holy Cross (4-1), and Boston University (4-0).
- The Bison came away with PL three weekly honors for their conference wins. Sarah Althouse won Goalkeeper of the Week, Reese Czajkowski earned Offensive Player of the Week and Kira Leclercq received Defensive Player of the Week.
- Althouse collected six saves and shutting out a potent Boston offense. The Terriers fired 16 shots, including ten in the first half, but the Bison goalie refused to allow entry. Althouse leads the conference in save percentage (.785).
- Czajkowski led the Bison attack that scored four goals with her aggressive play. She set up Bucknell's third tally with a perfect crossing pass and placed the cherry on top by scoring the fourth goal off a long-distance rocket. Her seven goals are tied for the team lead and tied for fourth in the loop. This is Czajkowski's first Offensive Player of the Week award.
- Leclercq maintained her top-notch offensive and defensive play on Saturday by scoring a goal and notching a defensive save. She gave Bucknell a 2-0 lead by firing a shot off a penalty corner opportunity. Her defensive save in the fourth period preserved the shutout. Her seven goals tie her with Czajkowski for the team lead and fourth in the league. Her three defensive saves are tied for second in the Patriot League.
- As a team, Bucknell is third in the PL in rankings with their lone conference loss coming against Lafayette, who sits second in the order behind American. Bucknell also sits at third in goals scored (26), behind Lafayette (32) and American (29).
