Volleyball Shines in Sweep of Lafayette, Extends Winning Streak to Six

WASHINGTON - A dominant full team performance earned the American University volleyball team its sixth straight win on Friday night, with four different Eagles hitting over .300 to highlight a clean sweep of Lafayette. Salme Adeele Hollas and Sophie Dufour led the way with 11 kills apiece, while AU committed just one reception error defensively.  

Notable
  • Hollas added six digs and four aces in her best serving night of the season, and Dufour contributed nine digs and picked up an assist. 
  • Up front, Prinzez Zeck and Carly Sciborski each hit .500 with four kills. 
  • Bella Marrero controlled the ball well for AU, taking on 12 digs and dishing out four assists. Deniz Dakak led the way in distribution, logging 27 assists. 
  • Including the four from Hollas, the Eagles had eight service aces in total. Two more came Sterling, and Marrero and Stewart had one apiece. 
  • AU hit .349 as a team compared to a -.043 percentage for Lafayette. 
  • Monyay Crowder picked up her first block assist of the season. 
  • Tonight marks AU's fifth sweep in a row. The Eagles have not lost a set since Sept. 20 against Army. 
  • American is now 7-1 at home.  
How it Happened
  • The Eagles purely dominated the first set, taking it 25-9. They never trailed, hitting .367 on 14 kills. Dufour led the way with five. 
  • After a Lafayette timeout with the score 11-7 in the second set, AU won 12 of the next 14 points and won the frame 25-12. 
  • The Eagles committed just two attacking errors in the set, and troubled Lafayette up front. The visitors hit -.037. 
  • The second set was when Hollas found a rhythm from the service area, putting down three aces. 
  • Hollas then caught fire on the outside, delivering six kills in the winning set for AU. 
  • The Leopards hung with the Eagles for longer than any other set, trailing just 16-13 midway through. Throttling to the finish line, American allowed Lafayette to score just one more point the rest of the way.
  • The match ended on a service ace from Maddy Stewart, adding an exclamation point to the 10-1 run and sealing the 25-14 final.

  • The Eagles are back at home to host Holy Cross on Sunday, Oct. 12 to close out the weekend. First serve is set for 3pm.
