No. 1 Seed Field Hockey Set to Host No. 4 Seed Boston U. Thursday in PL Semifinal

WASHINGTON – The American University field hockey team is opening postseason play at home this week as the No. 1 seed in the Patriot League Tournament. The Eagles will host No. 4 seed Boston at 11 a.m. on Thursday in the first semifinal game of the day.

The tournament action will continue with No. 2 seed Lafayette and No. 3 seed Bucknell facing off at 2 p.m. for the second game of the day. The winners of the two games will meet in the Patriot League Championship game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, at Jacobs Complex.

What To Know About Boston University 
  • Boston finished the regular season 6-10 overall and 3-3 in the Patriot League. The Terriers' three conference losses were to tournament-bound competitors, narrowly losing 1-2 at Bucknell, 0-2 at American, and 0-5 versus Lafayette.
  • The Terriers placed three players on All-League Teams; defender Payton Anderson and forward Martu Coulo named to First Team, and forward/midfielder Nicole Lauro with Second Team honors.
  • Anderson is currently third in the league for goals scored, having contributed 10 toward the team's season total 27. Coulo, a junior, ranked third on the team in assists (3). This is her first First Team All-League recognition; she earned All-Patriot League Second Team in both of her previous seasons, also being named the PL Rookie of the Year as a freshman.
  • Nicole Lauro started 11 of Boston's 16 games in the 2024 season, providing 13 shots on goal and tallying a goal and an assist.
  • Goalkeeper Kate Thomason ranks second in saves per game (5.87) and in saves (88). 
Major Awards

  • On the All-League Second Team was sophomore forward Jordan Reicher, who ended the regular season tied for 8th in the league for goals (7) alongside Roffo.
  • Underwood was also announced as the League's 2024 Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second time in a row and joined on the League's All-Academic team by both Roffo and Weiss.
  • For a record 12th time in his 26 years at the helm, Head Coach Steve Jennings was named the PL Coach of the Year.
