Watts and Jeong Engle Post Four Wins Each for Swim & Dive Against Georgetown

WASHINGTON - Fifth-year Mimi Watts and sophomore Lian Jeong Engle both posted wins in all four of their events, with Watts also setting a pool record for American University swimming & diving in a home meet against Georgetown. The Eagles won eight events in all, including both women's relays.

Notable
  • Watts went 56.02 to set her fifth pool record at American in the 100 backstroke, breaking Lily Koenig's mark of 56.20 from 2019. Watts also holds the top marks in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 fly, and 200 fly.
  • Leading off the day was the women's 200 medley foursome of freshman Piper Crosby, Watts, freshman Marin Priddy and Jeong Engle with a winning time of 1:45.74, just 0.41 seconds off the pool record. Their finish ranks 11th all-time in program history.
  • Watts recorded her second individual victory in the 100 fly with a time of 55.07.
  • Jeong Engle took first place in both the 50 free (24.19) and 100 free (53.09). Freshman Grace Gilbert took second in the 50 free in 24.61, and Crosby was third for a 1-2-3 Eagles' sweep.
  • The fourth win for both Watts and Jeong Engle came in the final event, the 200 freestyle relay, as they joined Priddy and fellow freshman Grace Gilbert to take a victory in 1:35.89 that ranks 10th all-time at American.
  • Freshman Kate Williams won a close race in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:43.10.
  • On the men's side, senior Daniel Coughlin got a big win in the 200 fly with a time of 1:54.36 which was over two seconds faster than second place.
  • Freshman Zachary Rothman made his way on to the top 16 list in the 1,000 freestyle with his third-place finish in 9:40.74 that ranks 11th all-time.
  • Junior Colin Clough posted a pair of second-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke and 100 free. Freshman Ryan Pursley also placed second twice, doing so in both the 200 back and 200 IM.
  • The final team scores had Georgetown winning 148-114 on the women's side, and 161-96 for the men.
Next Up
  • The Eagles head to Loyola Maryland for a noon dual meet on Tuesday, Oct. 15, and will compete in a dual meet at Catholic University on Friday, Oct. 18.
