Lacrosse to Face Boston U at Home on Thursday in Final Regular Season Game

WASHINGTON – The American lacrosse team will be back on the field at Jacobs Complex to take on Boston University–after having played the last two weeks on the road–for their final game of the regular season on Thursday, April 27 at 1 p.m.

  • Celebrate Pride and inclusivity in the extended AU community while cheering on the women's lacrosse team as the campus continues its work to develop a sense of belonging for all. This event is a collaboration and partnership with the Department of Athletics, AU's Center for Diversity and Inclusion and the AU Pride Student Group.
SERIES HISTORY
  • In a series that dates to 2014, the Eagles and the Terriers have faced off a total of seven times. Boston U has the 6-1 advantage over American since that series has begun, with American's sole win coming in Boston in the programs' most recent matchup.
  • Last season, on April 29, 2022, the Eagles and the Terriers battled out to a 16-12 American victory in Boston. This was the first series win for the Eagles.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN
  • This past Saturday, the Eagles and the Raiders of Colgate faced off on the road in Hamilton, N.Y. American would end up falling 15-16 at the end of OT and dropping to ninth in the league while Colgate would end the game at seventh in the league with the win.
  • American's offense started early, scoring three goals unanswered to start the first. The Eagles and the Raiders traded goals for the duration of the game, with a last second equalizer from Annabelle Jackson forcing the game into overtime, where Colgate would win it with a free position goal.
  • Junior Hannah Spease and freshman Kellie Linehan led the Eagles offensively with five and four goals respectively. Linehan's four goals brought her to a team high 30 goals for the season, while Spease's five goals brought her to 29 goals on the season.
  • Four more Eagles got on the board against Colgate. Freshman Annabelle Jackson added three goals to the tally, and freshman Reagan Murdoch and sophomores Maddy Spratt and Alyssa Apuzzo scored a goal apiece.
  • Defensively, seniors Sadie Herman and Emma Hare, junior Jordan Mitchell, and freshman Reagan Murdoch all caused turnovers.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Lexi Rakis stood tall in front of the net as she saved 10 of the Raiders' 26 shots on goal. Rakis upped her total saves for the season to 61, keeping 39% of shots out of the net. Rakis is 13th in the league in saves percentage (.365).
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT BOSTON UNIVERSITY
  • The Boston University Terriers are coming off a 13-9 home victory over Bucknell. The Terriers came out strong in the first quarter, scoring four goals that went unanswered by the Bison. Boston U continued to control the game despite a second-half push from Bucknell.
  • Offensively, BU scored 13 goals from 28 shots, while Bucknell finished with nine scores on 33 attempts. The Terriers registered seven assists while Bucknell had just three assists in the entire contest.
  • Senior Claire Gola concluded the game with five goals, three draw controls, and two ground balls and caused turnover to her line on the stat sheet.
  • Five other Terriers got on the board in Saturday's match along with Gola. Grad student Maddie MacMaster, senior Jennifer Barry, and junior Kendall Sims all scored two goals for Boston U. Sophomores Hannah Tiller and Matty Spaeth also added a goal apiece in the victory.
  • In goal for BU was junior goalkeeper Reilly Agres. Agres saved 16 of Bucknell's 33 shots with a save percentage of 64%. Agres is third in the league in saves per game (8), and sixth in the league in saves percentage (.449).
