ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Make that four gold medals in 10 days for junior
Mimi Watts of American University swimming & diving as Watts placed first in the women's 100 butterfly at the 2023 ECAC Championships hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy. Watts is coming off a three-gold performance at the Patriot League Championships where she was named AU's first Women's Swimmer of the Meet since 2006.
Watts won the prelims of the 100 fly in a time of 52.82 that was just 0.06 off her own PR. Her finals time was slightly higher at 53.41 but a tenth of a second ahead of second-place Lily Mead from Loyola Maryland.
The season is now concluded for Watts, who has an NCAA "B" cut in the event as well as in the 50 freestyle, but is not high enough up the list in either event to earn a spot at the NCAA Championships.
Three Eagles will compete on Sunday in the final day of the ECAC Championships as sophomore
Amaya Tomma races in the 200 backstroke, sophomore
Laura Laux in the 100 freestyle and sophomore
Mary Barto in the 200 butterfly.
