LEXINGTON, Ky. - The storied career of American University volleyball standout Zeynep Uzen concludes with her biggest honor to date as she has been selected All-American Honorable Mention by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Uzen is also the 2023 Patriot League Player of the Year and an AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention honoree.

"Congratulations to Zeynep for earning All-America recognition," said head coach Ahen Kim. "I am happy she has received this honor to capstone a wonderful career at American University. We are all really proud."

In the final week of the 2023 season, Uzen was named the PL's Player of the Year and was selected to All-PL First Team for the fourth time in her career. Uzen finished her time at American with 1,729 kills to rank third all-time in program history and second all-time in the Patriot League. During the past season, Uzen became the fourth AU player to ever post both 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs. Her 1,073 digs rank ninth all-time at AU, while her 3.74 kills per set rank fifth all-time.

This season, Uzen led the Patriot League with 4.08 kills per set and 4.57 points per set. Her 2.37 digs per set were second on the team, and Uzen's versatility allows her to play in every rotation for American. In her career, she reached double figures in digs 87 times, with 44 double-doubles. Uzen was named to the Patriot League First Team as a freshman, junior, senior and grad student. She was named to the Patriot League All-Tournament Team in 2021 and 2023, to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team three times, and was the PL's Preseason Player of the Year in each of the last two seasons.
