Field Hockey to Host Bucknell and #9 Maryland

WASHINGTON – The American University women's field hockey team will be back home this weekend for a two-game weekend. The Eagles are set to host Patriot League opponents Bucknell on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 11 a.m. and Big 10 powerhouse #9 Maryland on Sunday at 3 p.m.

The FIRST 50 students to arrive at Jacobs will receive a free, custom mini AU Pride Flag and the student group Pride at AU will be in attendance with a table set up.

  • The Eagles look to win their third straight against the Bison after winning their last meeting 3-2 in October of 2022.

  • The Eagles search for their first win against Maryland in 18 matchups, dropping to their Terps 4-0 in their last meeting in 2021. 

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN 

  • The Eagles are coming off a 2-1 loss to Delaware where the Blue Hens struck twice within three minutes late in the game to steal the victory. 
  • Graduate student Charllene Boshoff leads the league in game-winning goals with three. She is also second in goals with six and first in points per game with 12 (2.00 Avg/G). Graduate Megan Hoffman also sits fourth in the league for assists with five. 
  • Senior goalkeeper Bryn Underwood is currently leading the league in save percentage (.806), goals against (13), and in shutouts with two. Underwood is also third in the league in saves per game average with 5.40. 
  • As a team, American sits at second in the Patriot League in both shots (118, 11.80 Avg/G) and goals (21, 2.100 Avg/G). The Eagles also hold the lowest goals against in the Patriot League at 13. 
  • Starting league play 2-0, the Eagles look to extend their Patriot League win streak against Bucknell. 
  • The Eagles have fallen just short in their ranked matchups this season, falling to #16 Penn State in overtime and coming up empty against #9 Liberty in a shootout.  

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT BUCKNELL 

  • Junior forward Lily Neilson leads the Patriot League in shots (52), shots on goal (33), and goals (7). She also sits level with American's Charllene Boshoff in game-winning goals with three. 
  • After two losses over the past weekend against Boston University and #18 UMass Lowell, the Bison travel to Washington in search of a win to break their losing streak. 
  • Traveling Troubles: While maintaining a perfect 4-0 record at home, Bucknell is winless on the road this season at 0-7. 
  • Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Althouse sits second behind American's Bryn Underwood in the Patriot League for goals against with an average of 1.775 per game, fourth in saves with 51, and fifth in shutouts with one. 
  • The Bison, while playing the most games of any Patriot League team, have the lowest foul percentage with only 5.33 fouls per game. 

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT MARYLAND 

  • The Terrapins bounced back after a shootout loss to #6 Rutgers, defeating #16 Penn State 4-2 and extending their record to 8-3 on the season. 
  • Maryland is one of seven different Big Ten teams within the NCAA Top 25 this season, sitting eighth in the country. 
  • Junior forward Hope Rose sits fourth in the Big Ten in goals (10), and fifth in both shots (37) and shots on goal (29). She also sits eighth in game-winning goals with three. 
  • Freshman goalkeeper Alyssa Klebasko leads the Big Ten in saves (22) and sits second in goals against average at .693. 
  • After their match against American, the Terps will dive deep into Big Ten play, facing #15 Michigan, #11 Ohio State, and #1 Iowa in the span of a week.
