#25 Field Hockey Returns Home to Face Off Against Colgate and Queens University

WASHINGTON – After opening the Patriot League season with a 2-1 overtime win against Lafayette, the #25 American University field hockey program is returning home to Jacobs Complex for double duty this weekend. The #25 Eagles (4-3, 1-0 PL) are set to host league opponents Colgate (2-6, 0-0 PL) on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 11 a.m. and Queens University of Charlotte (0-6) on Sunday at 1 p.m.

  • In a series that dates to 2003, American holds the 22-0 series advantage over Colgate.
  • The two programs last met on October 30, 2021, when the Eagles took the game 3-0 over the Raiders.
  • The upcoming meeting between American and Queens University of Charlotte is the first contest between the two programs.  
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN
  • American will enter the match ranked #25 in the nation. The team is coming off a dramatic overtime win against Lafayette on Saturday that started off their Patriot League campaign with a statement.
  • Junior goalkeeper Bryn Underwood is the current Patriot League Goalkeeper of the week. This is her third time being honored this season and eighth time overall.
  • Federica Turina Dellamaggiore a sophomore from Argentina is the Gregorio's Trattoria Student-Athlete of the Week. After the Lafayette game in which she scored the OT game winner, she's up to five goals for the season.
  • First year Lotta Curanz from Berlin, Germany, has been sensational taking penalty corners for American, earning four assists in American's last four games because of her efforts.
  • Charllene Boshoff, a senior defender from South Africa, is another force on the Eagles squad this season, having three goals so far. She scored the first goal against Lafayette off a penalty corner.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT COLGATE
  • Colgate will enter Saturday's match coming off a loss against #18 Duke University. The Raiders recorded 5 total shots and saves during the game.
  • Senior goalie Anna Unger was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week on 9/5. This was the third time Unger has received this honor in her career.
  • The Raiders secured their first win in their season opener against Merrimack College where freshman Dani Palmer scored her first and second career goals.
  • Ella Murphy and Dani Palmer lead the Raiders in goals this season, recording three goals each in eight games.
  • Amanda Allen and Mari Kniezewski lead the charge in assists this season with two each. Both players each had an assist against Merrimack College.
  • The Raiders recently fell to #18 Duke University where Ella Murphy scored the lone goal with no assist.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT QUEENS UNIVERSITY
  • Sydney Smith leads the charge for the Royals with two goals this season and four total points. 
  • Sophomore Enya Kemp scored the first DI goal in Queens history against Longwood University.
  • Freshman goalie Hannah Neyssen notched her career-high 13 saves during her first career start at Ohio University.
  • Marlee Geppert, junior goalkeeper for the Royals, matched her career-high saves against Ohio University after facing 30 shots on goal. Geppert has matched her career-high of nine saves four times this season.
  • The Royals faced #11 Liberty University, where midfielder Gabe Lechner led the Royals with two shots while Fay Van De Roer notched the lone shot on goal.
