FAIRFAX, Va. - Personal records continued to fall for the American University track team on Saturday, as nine Eagles picked up new career bests at the George Mason Spring Invitational in Fairfax.
HEAR FROM COACH GRAHAM...
"We had some really great racing in a number of events today. Another PR from
Callia Cordasco in her most aggressive 1500m yet.
Rachael Potter was battling for the win in her section of the 5k, ended up finishing second with a big PR. On the men's side, Nate Reeves and
Tucker Zullo both had big races in the 1500m and came away with PRs, including an eight-second improvement for Nate. Then, to close out the night,
Russell Sullivan kept pace with the front of the pack in the 5000m and ended up clicking a few seconds off their PR, and
Aidan Caggiano had an absolutely perfectly executed 5k to take over a minute off with a new PR of 14:38.54! We have two big weeks of training coming up until we do it again at Virginia and Bucknell!"
#AUTF NOTES
- The sprints group opened the day in the afternoon session with freshman Brian Gutro picking up the first PR for the Eagles with a 53.16 finish in the 400m dash.
- Fellow-freshman Neev Agarwal had a big career debut in the women's long jump, hitting 4.92 meters (16-1.75) to place 18th in the field. The mark would have also landed her in the program record books had it not been for the +2.8 wind reading.
- The evening's events were highlighted by eight more personal record performances, including a pair of big finishes in the men's 1500m run. Junior Nathan Reeves fell just over one second shy of a new AU all-time top-10 finish in the event, placing fifth overall and third in his section with a final time of 3:49.77. Classmate Tucker Zullo was close behind with a PR of his own, crossing in 3:52.53 for 12th.
- In the women's field, sophomore Callia Cordasco picked up her second consecutive PR in the event with a a final time of 4:50.33 to take seventh in her section after battling at the front of the pack for much of the race.
- The 5000m run also saw a few PR's, including a 17-second improvement for junior Rachael Potter who crossed in 18:16.60 for 17th overall and second in her section.Â
- Two Eagles placed in the top-10 in the men's 5000m field, starting with junior Russell Sullivan who continues to shave off their PR with a 14:29.18 finish for fourth overall. The highlight of the night, though, may have been senior Aidan Caggiano who obliterated his PR by 68 seconds with a 14:38.54 finish for eighth.Â
- Rounding out the PR's for the day were freshman Lucia Ianello and junior Eva Gibson in the 800m run. Ianello closed in 2:25.88 followed by Gibson at 2:37.98.

American will be off next weekend before returning for a two-meet weekend with the Virginia Challenge and Bucknell Team Challenge on April 22 and April 23, respectively.
