WASHINGTON - The American University lacrosse team opens a two-game home stretch on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. draw against No. 6 Loyola Maryland at Jacobs Complex. The Eagles come into the game chasing one of its best seasons in program history - with six games left in the regular season they are four wins away from tying with the 2003 squad for most single-season wins in program history (11-8). They are also three wins away from tying for most single-season Patriot League victories in AU history.
American is also looking at its first postseason appearance since 2013. The Eagles are currently sitting fourth in the Patriot League with the top-six teams making the conference tournament next month.
SERIES HISTORY
- A perennial powerhouse in the Patriot League, Loyola Maryland currently owns a 22-0 record against AU including an 8-0 run at Jacobs Complex.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- American fell just short of a massive second-half comeback on April 2 as Army West Point broke the Eagles' five-game win streak, 17-14.
- The Black Knights opened with an 8-0 run in the first 19 minutes before senior Stefanie Walsh and fifth-year Emma Vinall finally got AU on the board in the second quarter. American outpaced Army 11-7 in the final 30 minutes, cutting the Black Knights' lead down to two briefly, but were unable to sneak any closer as a three-goal run in the fourth quarter ensured the Army victory.
- Vinall, Walsh, and fifth-year Kendall Goldblum led AU with three goals each. Walsh also added an assist for a team-high four points.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Mary Alice Collins continued her standout debut season with a career-high 20 saves, including 13 in the first half alone. She is tied for fourth in Division I with that new single-game high.
- Vinall continues to lead the team with 46 points (37g, 9a). She currently ranks 10th in Division I with 7.6 draw controls per game.
- Collins also sits along some of the best in the country, ranking 14th in the NCAA with her .492 save percentage.
- The Eagles are one win away from tying with the 2013 team for most wins since 2011 (9-8).
SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS
- Loyola is coming off back-to-back wins over Holy Cross (21-7) and Colgate (22-9) after dropping its first game of the season with a 14-13 loss at Syracuse.
- The Greyhounds, currently ranked sixth in Division I by both the IWLCA and InsideLacrosse, opened with a 9-0 run including four wins against ranked opponents - #21 Johns Hopkins, 14-5 on Feb. 19; #24 Penn, 12-10 on March 2; #12 Florida, 12-9 on March 11; and #10 Princeton, 16-15 on March 23.
- They are tied with UMass with a Division I record 61 consecutive conference victories.
- Livy Rosenzweig leads the team with 53 points (38g, 15a) and ranks fourth in the Patriot League for goals (3.17) and points (4.42) per game.
- Sam Fiedler and Georgia Latch are next with 39 points each, including a team-high 21 assists for Latch who ranks fourth in the PL with 1.75 per game.
- Kaitlyn Larsson continues to be one of the top keepers in the league, ranking fourth with an 8.95 GAA. She also averages 7.33 saves per game and holds a .471 save percentage.
- Loyola is second in Division I in free position percentage (.561), and is fourth for draw control percentage (.596) behind a 6.67 per game avereage from Jillian Wilson.
