WASHINGTON - The American University lacrosse team will look to pick up its fifth consecutive win on Saturday as the Eagles host Holy Cross at noon in Jacobs Complex.
SERIES HISTORY
- This will be the first meeting between the Eagles and the Crusaders since the 2019 season when AU defeated Holy Cross at Jacobs, 17-13, in the home regular-season finale.
- The win broke what had been a six-game losing streak for American at the hands of Holy Cross, dating back to the 2013 season.
- The Crusaders hold the advantage in the 21-game series, 14-7, although the two teams remain tied in Washington with a 5-5 record.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- American comes into the weekend matinee on its longest win stretch since the 7-0 run in 2020, having won its last four outings against Gardner-Webb (20-11), William & Mary (10-8), Old Dominion (17-13), and Lafayette (13-9).
- The win over Lafayette on Saturday was the Eagles' first PL victory since the 17-13 defeat of Holy Cross to close out the 2019 home schedule.
- With a win on Saturday, AU could tie for the most-single season wins since 2013 (8). American closed the 2019 slate with a 7-10 record, and went undefeated at 7-0 in 2020 before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
- Senior Stefanie Walsh led the team against the Leopards on Saturday, tying her career-high with six goals. She added an assist to set a new career-best seven points.
- Fifth-year Emma Vinall tied her career-high with 13 draw controls.
- Sophomore-transfer Mary Alice Collins also tied her career-high with 16 saves, including 11 in the first half alone.
- Vinall continues to lead the team with 36 points (31g, 5a) and 69 draw controls so far this season.
- Classmate Kendall Goldblum follows with 31 points (23g, 8a) and 27 draw controls, with Walsh also totaling 31 points (19g, 12a) - all good for career-highs.
- Vinall ranks 11th in Division I and second in the Patriot League with 7.7 draw controls per game. She is also second in the conference with 3.4 goals per game and fourth with 4.0 points per game.
- Freshman Maddy Spratt also sits near the top of the PL rankings, coming in third with 1.8 assists per game.
