GREENSBORO, N.C. - Two appearances in finals highlighted the week for American University junior
Mimi Watts at USA Swimming's Toyota US Open Championships. Watts competed in three events overall, while fellow junior
Nick Buckley raced in the men's 50 freestyle.
Watts advanced to the B final in both the 100 fly and 200 fly. She was fifth in her heat but 12th overall in the 100 fly with a time of 1:01.20, and then tied for third in the B final with a time of 1:01.42. Both swims came up short of her long course PR of 1:00.19. In the 200 fly, her time of 2:20.18 once again got her to the B final, and she went 2:21.56 in that event. Her long course PR for the 200 fly is 2:15.87.
In the 50 free, Watts went 26.46 to finish 30th of 53 swimmers in the heats. Buckley went 23.80 to tie for 55th among 74 swimmers.
As a team, the Eagles will not be back in action until the new calendar year. Following a training trip to Puerto Rico, AU will compete at Colgate on January 14.
