Swim & Dive Teams Compete Well at Bucknell Quad Meet; Women Defeat Lafayette

LEWISBURG, Pa. - In a quad meet at Bucknell, the American University swim and dive teams posted eight top-five finishes and got a win on the women's side against Lafayette. The Eagles also competed against Patriot League perennial power Navy in addition to the host Bison.

NOTABLE
  • The women's 200 medley relay team of freshman Sophia Hemingway, junior Maddie Mara, junior Mimi Watts and sophomore Marissa Kleckner had a strong start to the meet with a second-place finish in 1:46.84.
  • Watts also took second individually both the 200 fly and 100 free. She posted a time of 2:05.04 in the 200 fly, and a time of 51.96 in the 100 free.
  • In the 200 backstroke, Hemingway placed third in a personal-best time of 2:05.93, moving her up to 14th on the all-time list at American.
  • Mara swam a personal-best time of 1:06.45 in the 100 breaststroke, taking seventh place and moving up to 13th on AU's all-time list of PRs.
  • The women closed out the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay (1:38.41) thanks to the foursome of Kleckner, freshman Avery Barber, junior Mal Hassouna and Watts.
  • The final team scores had the women beating Lafayette 190-108 for the Eagles' second straight victory.
  • On the men's side, junior Nick Buckley tied for third in the 50 free with a time of 20.85, just over half a second off his own school record of 20.20.
  • Junior Caleb Farris placed fifth in the 100 butterfly in 51.04, and led off the men's 200 free relay that placed third to close out the meet. He was joined in that relay finish by Buckley, junior Will Deitch and sophomore Aidan Delehanty.

  • The Eagles will be close to home at the George Mason Patriot Invitational from Nov. 17-19, their last team meet until early January.
