Men's Basketball Returns to Bender on Tuesday for Matchup with UAlbany

WASHINGTON – Looking for a fifth straight win, American University men's basketball returns to Bender Arena on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. matchup with UAlbany. The Eagles enter Tuesday coming off a 66-55 win over Saint Francis while UAlbany is coming off a 73-56 loss to Florida Atlantic.   • American enters Tuesday's game with a 4-2 record, marking the program's best record through the first six games of the season since 2018-19.
  • American is coming off a 66-55 win over Saint Francis (Pa.) on Saturday for their fourth straight win. Led by junior Matt Rogers with 16 points, three Eagles recorded double figure points in the win. Sophomore Elijah Stephens and graduate student Jaxon Knotek each recorded 12 points. 
  • Rogers recorded his first career double double on Saturday, pairing his 16 points with 10 rebounds. The double double was also American's first of the season.
  • Junior Colin Smalls leads the Eagles in scoring so far this season, averaging 11.7 points per game. Rogers is leading the Eagles in rebounds with 10.8 per game, junior Johnny O'Neil leads in blocks with 2.4 per game, and Stephens leads in assists with 4.2 per game and steals with 2.8 per game.
  • Knotek was named the Gregorio's Trattoria Student-Athlete of the Week this week.
  • Freshman Geoff Sprouse was named the Patriot League's Rookie of the Week this week for his efforts in the Eagles' games at Georgetown and Saint Francis (Pa.).
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT UALBANY
  • UAlbany enters Tuesday's game with a 3-5 overall record. The Great Danes' wins have come over Immaculata (74-47), Union (87-75), and Presbyterian (68-65).
  • The Great Danes are coming off a 73-56 loss to Florida Atlantic. They were led by graduate student Sarju Patel who led all scorers with 23 points. Two other Great Danes scored in double figures with freshman Jonathan Beagle totaling 12 and junior Malik Edmead totaling 10.
  • Head Coach Dwayne Killings is in his second year at the head of the program.
  • Senior Gerald Drumgoole Jr. leads the Great Danes in scoring averaging 13.4 points per game, Beagle leads in rebounds with 7.8 per game, graduate student Da'Kquan Davis leads in assists with 2.0 per game, and Drumgoole Dr., Patel and sophomore Justin Neely lead in steals with 1.0 per game.
  • After Tuesday's game, UAlbany will stay on the road for two games, traveling to UMass and Providence.
