One School Record and One Win are Among the Day Two Patriot Invite Highlights for Swim & Dive

FAIRFAX, Va. - The men's 200 medley relay team set a school record, and junior Mimi Watts earned her second win in as many days as the American University swimming & diving team wrapped up day two of the three-day Patriot Invitational.

NOTABLE

Two members of the school record-setting 200 medley relay team, juniors Nick Buckley and Will Deitch, were part of the previous record-holding foursome from February of 2022. They were joined by freshman Nate Coleman and junior Caleb Farris in taking fourth place with a school-record time of 1:30.78.
The women's 200 medley relay was less than a second off its own record, taking second all-time in 1:43.75. Juniors Sasha Uspenskaya, Maddie Mara and Watts were joined by freshman Avery Barber in taking fourth overall in that event.
In individual events, the Eagles posted another six top-16 personal bests of all-time.
Watts posted her win in the women's 100 fly, going 53.41 in the prelims and dropping it to 53.34 in the finals, short of her school-record 52.81.
Farris was the runner-up in the prelims of the men's 100 fly with a PR of 48.74 that ranks third all-time. He ultimately placed fourth in the finals with a time of 48.79,
Diver Peyton Thurman was a top-three finisher for AU, taking third on the women's 3-meter with a score of 227.35.
Mara was strong in the women's 100 breaststroke, dropping her time to 1:04.79 in the finals to take seventh and post the fifth-fastest PR in program history.
The Eagles had a trio of solid finishes in the women's 100 backstroke. Uspenskaya placed 11th overall in 57.01, a PR that ranks ninth all-time. Freshman Sophia Hemingway dropped to 57.12 to win the C final and post a PR which ranks 10th all-time. Sophomore Amaya Tomma finished in 57.23, topping her previous PR and ranking 11th all-time.
Freshman Jack Reilly went 4:06.94 in the prelims of the men's 400 IM which ranks 16th all-time at AU, and he took 13th in the finals of that event.
In the men's 100 breaststroke, Deitch was short of his PR but went 57.19 to take 12th overall.
The women currently stand in fifth place among seven teams, while the men stand in fourth place among six teams.

The Eagles have one more day of competition at the Patriot Invitational. Saturday's events include the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, 400 free relay, the women's 1 meter and men's 3 meter.
