Swim & Dive Earns Nine Wins and Three Pool Records in Dual Meet at Georgetown

WASHINGTON - Three pool records, nine wins and 10 individual runner-up finishes highlighted a great meet for American University men's and women's swimming and diving in dual meet action at Georgetown. Junior Mimi Watts set two individual pool records and a relay pool record in recording three of the Eagles' nine wins.

WOMEN'S NOTABLE RESULTS
  • Watts, who has won all of her individual events so far in two meets, picked up a pair of solo victories in this one. She came in well ahead of the rest of the field in both the 50 free (23.54) and the 100 fly (54.91) to set McCarthy Pool records in both events.
  • Watts was also part of the winning 400 medley relay team along with freshman Sophia Hemingway, junior Maddie Mara and sophomore Marissa Kleckner. The foursome's time of 3:51.64 set a pool record at Georgetown and ranks ninth-best all-time in program history.
  • Kleckner earned a big individual win in the 100 free, beating out seven others with her time of 53.79.
  • Freshman Sophia Hemingway placed second in the 100 back in 58.52, and tied for second in the 200 back in 2:07.34.
  • Sophomore Mallory Meister was second in the 1,000 free with a time of 11:00.88.
  • Freshman diver Peyton Thurman moved up AU's Top 16 list yet again, taking second on the 1-meter with a score of 243.15 which ranks as the seventh-highest PR in program history.
  • Thurman's 3-meter score of 234.53 earned her fourth place and moves her up to eighth place all-time at American.
  • Senior Kenzie Cresci and junior Maddie Mara came in third and fourth, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke, clocking times of 1:07.07 and 1:07.14.
  • Sophomore Marissa Kleckner was third in the 50 free in 24.44, freshman Veronica Lester was third in the 200 fly in 2:11.99, and sophomore Tyler DiMarco was third in the 200 fly in 2:12.27.
  • Freshmen Katie Yoo and Gabby Kaczorowski went 1-2 in the 200 IM in the final individual event of the meet.
  • As a team, the women fell to the Hoyas by a score of 174.5 to 122.5.
MEN'S NOTABLE RESULTS
  • In the 200 free, junior Caleb Farris edged the Hoyas' second-place finisher by 0.23 seconds for a win in 1:43.81.
  • Farris took second place in the 100 fly with a time of 51.37.
  • In the men's 50 free, junior Nick Buckley took second in 21.59, and freshman Madan Morris took second in the 200 fly in 1:59.32.
  • Freshman Rhys Davies took fourth on the 3-meter with a score of 260.25 which moves him into seventh place on the Top 16 personal bests list. Sophomore Griffin Batt's 3-meter score of 230.40 was also a personal best, improving on his own 11th-best PR in program history.
  • In the men's 1000 free, sophomore Seamus Brown took third in 10:07.08.
  • Juniors Griffin Young and Will Timme went 1-2 in the 200 IM in the final individual event.
  • The final team totals had Georgetown with 210 points and American with 87 points.
