WASHINGTON – American University head men's basketball coach Mike Brennan announced the hiring of Dallas Cameron as an assistant coach on Monday.
Cameron rounds out the AU men's basketball coaching staff ahead of the upcoming season set to start in November.
"We are thrilled to have Dallas joining our staff," Brennan said. "He has consistently been a part of winning programs. From winning two state championships as a high school player to being an important piece of three NCAA Tournament appearances at Stephen F. Austin, Dallas is a proven winner. His experience will be a valuable resource for our student-athletes, program, and university. Most importantly, Dallas is a perfect example of exactly what we want our student-athletes to be once they graduate from AU."
Cameron comes to American after spending the previous two seasons as a graduate assistant and assistant video coordinator at Oklahoma State. He played an integral role in opponent scouting, player development, and recruiting for the Big 12 program.
During his two seasons in Stillwater, Okla., the Cowboys went 39-23 with an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2021. Cameron also worked with the first No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft in program history (Cade Cunningham).
"I would like to first off thank God for the blessings that He has bestowed upon me," said Cameron. "I would also like to thank Dr. Billy Walker and Coach Brennan for believing in me and for giving me an opportunity to be a part of a great university and athletic program. I look forward to getting to work with the team and I can't wait to get to know the people of the AU community!"
Prior to coaching at Oklahoma State, Cameron spent two seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach, Fla. He led day-to-day practices and managed the strength and conditioning program for a team that won back-to-back state titles in both 2018 and 2019.
Cameron played college hoops at Stephen F. Austin, winning three straight Southland Conference championships and earning three NCAA Tournament appearances during his career. The four-year letter winner and team captain is one of only four players in program history to win over 100 games during his career (107). He also led the Lumberjacks to two wins in the NCAA Tournament.
