Sunday, April 11  ·  2 p.m.  ·  Washington, D.C. (Jacobs Complex)
All-Time Record: American leads, 22-0

WASHINGTON - The American University field hockey team will honor its three seniors on Sunday, April 11, as the Eagles host Lehigh at 2 p.m. at Jacobs Complex.

THANK YOU SENIORS
  • Saturday's game will double as a celebration of the impressive careers of the three members of the AU field hockey's Class of 2021 - Lauren Fredricks, Gaby de Kock, and Noor Coenen. Throughout the last four years, the trio has earned an overall record of 37-22, including a staggering 17-4 record in conference play. In 2019, they helped lead the team to an undefeated run through the Patriot League, culminating in the program's 11th conference title and bid into the NCAA Tournament. The list of accomplishments continues into the classroom, as the team continued its run of NFHCA Division I Academic Team Awards, including a top-five Division I GPA in 2017.
  • Gaby de Kock, a native of Cape Town, South Africa, joined the Eagles in 2019 after transferring from the University of the Pacific, and immediately made an impact for the team on the offensive end. A key element of the Eagles' attack, she has earned four goals and four assists in her 22 games, most notably a thrilling golden goal in double-overtime against Lafayette last weekend.
  • Lauren Fredricks had a breakout junior campaign, earning her first All-Patriot League honor and an All-Tournament League selection. She has been a guiding force for the Eagles in the midfield, and earned a career-high six points, all off assists, during her junior season.
  • Noor Coenen has already established herself as one of the best players in program history after becoming the 15th player to be selected as an All-American last season. A three-time All-Region selection, she is also the returning Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year and the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, and is a three-time All-PL First Team selection. She currently ranks in the program's top-10 for career points (No. 8 - 107) and career goals (No. 6 - 43), and is five assists away from becoming the sixth player in AU field hockey history to rank in the top 10 for all three categories.
SERIES HISTORY
  • The Eagles are undefeated against Mountain Hawks at 22-0 throughout the 20-year history between the two teams.
  • The last meeting between AU and Lehigh was on October 5, 2019, in Bethlehem, Pa., when AU came away with a 4-1 victory. The two teams last met in Washington, D.C, on September 29, 2018, and the Eagles claimed a decisive 9-1 win.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
  • AU comes into the game off an exciting double-overtime win over Lafayette on Sunday, 2-1.
  • The Eagles were the first to get on the board after sophomore Merel Dupont found the back of the cage for the first time in her career midway through the first quarter. It took until the fourth quarter for Lafayette to hit the equalizer to send the game into extra time.
  • The two teams were even through the first overtime period and nearly took the game to strokes before senior Gaby de Kock knocked in a long cross from classmate Noor Coenen to pick up the win. Coenen assisted on both goals, and de Kock initiated both scoring plays with penalty corner insertions.
  • De Kock was selected for her first Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week after hitting in that game-winner. Junior Georgia Davies joined her on the release with her second Defensive Player of the Week nod this season after continuing to anchor AU's defense, holding Lafayette to only four penalty corner opportunities.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Bryn Underwood continues to guide American from the cage with her best performance yet, earning a career-high eight saves on the day.
  • This was the second consecutive double-overtime game for AU after they were pushed into extra time by Bucknell on March 28. That time, though, the Eagles were unable to find the golden goal as the Bison took the 2-1 win.
  • The Eagles lead the country in penalty corners per game, averaging 10.67 after the first three games of the season, while Coenen ranks first for assists per game (1.3) and 11th for points per game (2.0).
  • Coenen, the top returning scorer in the PL, leads the conference in shots (18), points (6), and assists (4).
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAIN HAWKS
  • Lehigh is coming off its first loss of the season - a 2-1 final against Holy Cross on April 4. The Mountain Hawks opened the 2021 spring season with back-to-back wins against Lafayette, 1-0, and Bucknell, 4-0.
  • MJ Schwab scored Lehigh's lone goal against the Crusaders, and leads the team with four points (2g) alongside Lenke Havas (2g) and Julia Gatelein (2g).
  • Sarah Bonthuis, Olivia Perrone, and Sam Nason have sent in the team's only three assists so far this season.
  • Maddie Kahn has been the team's primary goalkeeper this season and has picked up 19 saves so far on 37 shots for a .905 save percentage. She has two goals against and a 0.67 goals against average.
  • Lehigh leads the league in scoring margin (1.33) and scoring average (2.0) and is the only team to have a pair of shutouts this season, but the team is also leading the league with 0.67 goals allowed per game.
  • Kahn leads the league with 6.3 saves per game while Havas, Gatelein and Schwab are all tied for third with four points.
  • The Mountain Hawks were predicted to finish fifth in the Patriot League this season and placed a pair of players on the Preseason All-League Team - Lanke Havas and Maddie Kahn.
