BALTIMORE - Peak results are a ways off for American University men's and women's swimming and diving, but the Eagles got their first taste of competition in over a year on Saturday afternoon in a dual meet at Loyola Maryland. 

NOTABLE

• American's very large freshman class was in the pool for the first time against an opponent, and had some solid results.
• One of those came from Mimi Watts with AU's top mark of the day, a time of 56.97 in the 100 fly. That result is ninth-best all-time in program history, and earned her a second-place finish in the event.
• The 200 medley relay "A" teams took second for both the men and women. Swimming for the women were Abby Longstaff, Kenzie Cresci, Watts and Ellie Kight, while the men's team was comprised of Aldrich Elvambuena, Will Timme, Jonathan Quick and Caleb Farris.
• Kayla Winters took third place in the 100 IM, Malak Hassouna placed third in the 100 free, Sasha Uspenskaya was third in the 100 back and Ellie Kight was third in the 500 free.
• Elvambeuna took third for the men in the 100 back.
• In 1-meter diving, freshmen Grace Hogue and Amanda Bosses both competed, with Hogue taking third.
• For the women, Uspenskaya, Winters, Charlotte Stenmark and Natalie Hamlet had the second-fastest time in the 200 free relay.
• The final scores had Loyola Maryland with a 146-70 win on the women's side and a 137-57 win for the men.

UP NEXT

• The next meet currently scheduled for the Eagles is the Patriot League Championship, set for April 21-24 at Bucknell.
