WASHINGTON - It has been over 350 days since the American University Lacrosse team's historic 2020 season was brought to a premature end. In that time, the Eagles have welcomed new head coach Lindsay Teeters, who is now looking to her first game at the helm of a Division I program as the squad prepares for its season debut at Mount St. Mary's on Saturday.

SERIES HISTORY
  • The Eagles own a 10-2 record against the Mountaineers dating back to the series debut on April 24, 1996, with a home loss against the Mount, 8-6.
  • Mount St. Mary's last win over the Eagles was a 15-14 triple overtime thriller on March 12, 1998. Since then, AU has hit a nine-game win streak, including the latest victory on March 2, 2016, in Emmitsburg, Md. (11-10).
  • American is 6-0 against Mount St. Mary's on the road, and 3-2 at home.
WELCOME, COACH TEETERS
  • The American University Department of Athletics announced the hiring of Lindsay Teeters the AU lacrosse program's 10th head coach on June 9, 2020.
  • For the past six years, Teeters has been in the club and high school ranks after spending seven years as an assistant coach on the college level at James Madison (2006-09), George Washington (2009-10), and Virginia Tech. (2010-13).
  • Teeters helped lead the Hokies to back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in program history and was promoted to associate head coach in her final season. Among those wins were victories over No. 16 Boston College and No. 7 Virginia.
  • A successful player in her own right, Teeters was a Team USA selection from 2007-09. She also worked for Team USA as the National Teams Manager at US Lacrosse in 2013.
  • Teeters was a four-year starter at Boston University and a two-time IWLCA All-American after helping the Terriers to three American East titles and three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a quarterfinal run in 2005. She was a four-time America East All-Conference selection, a four-time IWLCA All-Region honoree, and graduated as the program's all-time leading scorer in 2006 with 187 goals. She earned her bachelor's degree in hospitality management.
  • Teeters currently lives in Ellicott City, Md., with her husband Matt and two daughters, Lewis and Weston.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
  • AU will look to pick up where it left off last year, after the team cruised to its first undefeated nonconference run in program history at 7-0 before the COVID-19 pandemic ended the season just before the start of Patriot League play.
  • American was one of only eight teams in Division I to close last year with an undefeated record. The squad ranked among the top teams in the country, landing within the top-10 in seven categories including shots on goal per game (first), draw controls per game (second), scoring offense (third), points per game (fourth), and assists per game (seventh).
  • Among the returners for the Eagles is senior Emma Vinall, who earned the program's first Inside Lacrosse All-American award last year as honorable mention after leading the Division I rankings in goals (42), goals per game (6.0), and shots on goal per game (7.71). Vinall also ranked third in the country for total points (47) and points per game (6.71), and eighth for draw controls per game (7.86).
  • Vinall also became the first Eagle selected as an Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American, and was selected to the Patriot League Preseason All-League Team. She currently holds the program records for single-game goals (nine) and single-season points (65), and ranks second in program history for career goals (128) and fifth for career points (147).
  • Seniors Casey Harkins and Kendall Goldblum are also slated to make their return after closing 2020 among the leaders in Division I. Harkins led the country in assists (34) and points (52) while Goldblum ranked fifth for shots on goal (47), eighth for goals per game (4.1), and 12th for draw controls (49).
  • Harkins also tied for the Division I single-game record after pitching in a staggering 11 assists during the season finale against Presbyterian. She enters the season with four program records for single-game points (12), single-game assists (11), single-season assists (34), and career assists (61).
  • Senior defender Cate Golden also returns as one of the three captains this year, alongside Goldblum and Vinall. Golden led AU's back line to one of its best defensive outputs in recent years last season.
  • The Eagles return five more starters from last year's squad, including seniors Erica SkowronSarah Boney, and Delaney Oliveira, and juniors Hali Sibillia and Katie Pierce. Oliveira split the starting goalkeeper spot with then-senior Emma Curtis last season.
  • American also welcomes an exciting freshman class this year, featuring seven players from four states with goalkeeper Helena Morrison (Brielle, N.J.), defenders Natasha Koetje (Westfield, N.J.) and Jordan Mitchell (Greenwich, Conn.), midfielders Emma Fiore (Chalfont, Pa.), Lizzie De Guzman (Timonium, Md.) and Regan Hakes (Mendham, N.J.), and attacker Sophia Barry (Fair Haven, N.J.).
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
  • Mount St. Mary's opened its season with a pair of losses against Towson, 10-7, and No. 18 Navy, 10-8.
  • Jordan Groover and Sara Moeller lead the team with four goals each after the first two games, while Jordan Butler added three goals and an assist.
  • Zoe Hurblurt leads the team with two assists and five ground balls while Beanie Colson has brought down a team-high 11 draw controls.
  • Jenna Oler has led the team from the net, playing all 120 minutes so far this season and picking up 18 saves off 55 shots for a .474 save percentage. She was selected as the NEC Defensive Player of the Week after her performances against Towson and Navy.
