BETHLEHEM, Pa. –
David Coly and
Nicolas Blassou were named First Team All-Patriot League while
Evan Schweickert and
Zemi Rodriguez were named Third Team All-Patriot League when the conference office announced postseason awards on Friday.
It's the second time Coly and Blassou have been honored by the conference as they were Second Team All-PL in the spring. They are the first Eagles to be recognized as First Team All-PL since 2016.
Schweickert and Rodriguez were both recognized by the league for the first time in their careers. Rodriguez is the first AU men's soccer freshman to be named to an All-Patriot League team since AU joined the conference in 2001.
Coly finished the regular season with six goals and five assists for a total of 17 points, all of which led the Eagles. Blassou excelled on the defensive end, starting all 15 games he appeared in for a total of 1,352 minutes played. He directed a backline that ranked third in the conference with a 1.17 GAA through the regular season.
Serving as a team captain as a sophomore, Schweickert saw action in all 16 games, starting 15 times. He recorded three assists in the regular season, including an assist on the game-winning goal against Navy in the season finale.
Rodriguez led the team in minutes played, logging 1,366 in his freshman campaign. He scored two goals this season, including the team's first goal of the year in a 2-1 win over Old Dominion. He also added two assists for a total of six points. A versatile playmaker, he manned multiple positions on the field throughout the year.
The Eagles closed out the regular season with four straight Patriot League wins and are unbeaten in their last five matches. Their conference record was 6-2-1, which is their best since finishing the 2016 season 7-1-1. American is the No. 2 seed in the Patriot League and will host the highest remaining seed at Reeves Field on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 1 PM.
