Series History

• AU is 1-9-1 against West Virginia, last defeating the Mountaineers in 1988.
• The Eagles fell in Morgantown last year 2-0, conceding two goals from Pablo Pozos.

What to Know About American: 2-6-3 (2-1-1)

• The Eagles are coming off a 2-0 loss at Lehigh, their first Patriot League defeat of the season.
• Despite not scoring a goal, AU showed its attacking teeth early in the match and nearly found the back of the net. The Eagles generated three corner kicks in the opening six minutes, and Ian Webb-Johnson headed a shot off the left post on one of the corner entries. That chance ended as the team's best of the match, as they couldn't answer Lehigh's two tallies.
• Last time out at home on Oct. 3, AU played its best match of the season against Bucknell. The Eagles spent significant time in the attacking third and scored two goals for the first time this season in the clean sheet victory.
• Moad Ezzahir got the Eagles on the board just five minutes before half, getting his foot to a ball in the box through traffic on a corner kick. Early in the second half, Reyes Parra finished off a beautiful buildup of passes to put AU up 2-0. Finn O'Brien and Patryk Rojek picked up assists on the goal.
• Evan Tubbs was critical in goal, making five saves on the day. He made two stops in the first half that kept the score tied, denying prime chances from Nate Coughlin and Drew Roskos. The sophomore's 40 saves rank second in the Patriot League.
• Chris Sullivan has been American's best active attacking player, leading the team with 15 shots and 10 on goal. Ezzahir, Parra, Sebastian Garces, and Patryk Rojek have the team's other goals on the season.
• Head coach Zach Samol has used the youth on his roster this season. Midfielder Henrick Boahen has appeared in each match, while fellow midfielder Yuta Phoenix has started the last two matches and made nine appearances overall. Defensively, Rohan Chivikula has made five starts, helping anchor the back line with the senior captain Webb-Johnson.
