INSIDE THE SERIES
  • In a series that dates back to 1940, AU holds a 34-15 ledger against the Tribe.
  • The Tribe have won three of the last four meetings in the series, including a 79-70 victory at Bender Arena at the beginning of the 2019-20 season.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT AMERICAN
  • The Eagles won their season-opener in dramatic fashion, requiring overtime to top Marist on Tuesday. It was AU's first season opener at home since the 2010-11 season.
  • Stacy Beckton Jr. led all scorers with 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Josh Alexander (14 points) and Colin Smalls (career-high 12 points) also finished in double-figures.
  • Elijah Stephens made his collegiate debut and made his presence felt, dishing out a team-high six assists and making five overtime free throws to help ice the win.
  • In his ninth season at AU, head coach Mike Brennan looks to make moves on the all-time wins list. He is one win away from becoming the fifth AU skipper to reach 100 wins. Three more wins this season will put Brennan in fourth place on the all-time wins list for AU men's basketball.
  • With the addition of Mason Whittaker (Cust, New Zealand) to the roster this season, AU continues its legacy of international-born ballers as 12 different players from 11 different countries have now played for Coach Brennan. Whittaker joins Lorenzo Donadio and Christian Lorng as international players this season. The legacy of international players continues all the way back to the Jeff Jones era as an international player has been an Eagle for at least 21 straight seasons.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT WILLIAM & MARY
  • The Tribe dropped their season opener at Wake Forest, 77-59, on Wednesday night in Winston-Salem, N.C. Ben Wight enjoyed a career night, tallying a career-best 18 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including a 3-pointer, and 7-of-8 at the free throw line. His 18 points bested his previous career high of 10 set twice last season against George Washington and Delaware.
  • William & Mary finished last season with a 7-10 record, including 4-6 in CAA action. The Tribe return 10 letterwinners and four starters from last season.
  • Returning for the Tribe are Connor Kochera, a 6-5 guard who finished last season as the CAA Rookie of the Year, and Mehkel Harvey, a 6-9 big man who was placed on the CAA All-Defensive Team. Kochera averaged 13.4 ppg on 35.7 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
  • While most of the CAA got older, the Tribe got younger. The roster has only two scholarship players, forward Quinn Blair and center Mehkel Harvey, who have been in the program for more than two seasons.
