THANK YOU, SENIORS
  • American will celebrate the seven-player senior class on Sunday ahead of the 1 p.m. start against Cornell.
  • This impressive class, comprised of goalkeeper Dani Acuna (Biology/Phoenixville, Pa.), defender Georgia Davies (Psychology and health promotion/Ipswich, England), defender Hannah Duling (Biology/Silver Spring, Md.), midfielder Josie Formica (American studies/Severna Park, Md.), forward Hannah Moser (Public health/Allentown, Pa.), defender Maura Phelan (Graphic design/Lehighton, Pa.), and forward Aidan Rossman (Political science/Beaverdam, Va.) will head into the weekend with an impressive career record of 33-20, including a staggering 17-3 mark in league play.
BACK FOR ANOTHER ROUND
  • Sunday's game will also mark the final regular season home appearance for fifth-year seniors Noor Coenen and Gaby de Kock. Both Coenen and de Kock, along with 2021 graduate Lauren Fredricks, were honored during their senior day game in April.
LOOKING FORWARD TO POSTSEASON
  • With a win against Holy Cross on Saturday, the Eagles will secure their spot in the Patriot League Tournament and will be one victory away from the regular season title and the right to host with two games remaining against Boston University (Oct. 23) and Colgate (Oct. 30).
  • The Patriot League Tournament will begin on Thursday, November 4, with the semifinal round, followed by the Championship on Saturday, Nov. 6.

SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS

  • Holy Cross enters the weekend of a 3-0 loss to Massachusetts-Lowell on Monday.
  • The last win for the Crusaders was Friday, Oct. 8, against Colgate.
  • Holy Cross picked up its first Patriot League win of the season with a 3-2 OT victory over the Raiders.
  • Meggan Fourie scored the opening goal before Colgate surged to a 2-1 lead.
  • Katie Guden sent in the equalizer in the final 10 minutes, then Rachel Perry earned the game winner less than three minutes into extra time.
  • Allie McDonough, Keely Smith, and Sinead Walsh added an assist each. Goalkeeper Emma Lauber earned her first of two consecutive eight-save performances against Colgate.
  • Walsh and Fourie lead the team's overall offensive efforts. Walsh has 11 points off three goals and a team-high five assists while Fourie, a rookie, leads with four goals and a pair of assists for 10 points.

SERIES HISTORY vs. HOLY CROSS

  • American has dominated the 22-year series history against Holy Cross, 23-3.
  • The last time the Eagles lost to the Crusaders was a 1-0 final in Easton, Pa., during the 2002 Patriot League Tournament semifinal.
  • AU went on to win the next eight consecutive PL titles, beating Holy Cross in three of those championship games.
  • American has claimed victories in the last 22 meetings with the Crusaders, including a perfect 12-0 record at home.
  • The two teams last faced off in D.C. during the 2019 PL Tournament semifinal when the Eagles claimed the 5-1 win before beating out Lafayette for the PL title.

SCOUTING THE BIG RED

  • Sunday will be the second game of the weekend for Cornell after they visited #16 Princeton on Friday afternoon.
  • Cornell is undefeated against Patriot League teams this season after beating out Colgate twice (3-1 and 4-3), and most recently Bucknell (4-2).
  • Junior defender Caroline Ramsey picked up a hat trick during the win over Bucknell, scoring all three off penalty corner opportunities in the second half.
  • Julia Darmo also added one off a penalty stroke in the third quarter.
  • Bridget Mahoney and Kate Macgillis pitched in the assists for all three Ramsey goals.
  • Cornell goalkeeer Aerin Park had eight saves on the day.
  • Ramsey leads the offensive efforts for Cornell with 29 points (13g, 3a) and is second in the Ivy League in scoring. She is also tied for fourth in Division I for defensive saves (5).
  • Mahoney leads the country with 1.0 assists per game.
  • Both of Cornell's ranked losses this season were tight games after they fell to #1 Michigan, 3-2, and #12 Syracuse, 1-0.
SERIES HISTORY vs. CORNELL
  • This is only the third meeting between the Eagles and the Big Red, and the first time they faced each other in Washington, D.C.
  • The series had its debut during the 2001 season when AU beat out Cornell on their home field, 3-2.
  • American notched its second victory with a 1-0 shutout against Cornell in Ithaca, N.Y., dring the 2014 season.
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Eagles picked up a key conference victory on Saturday, Oct. 9, after a 2-0 shutout at Lehigh.
  • The game was scoreless through three quarters before senior Hannah Moser got the Eagles on the board in the 49th minute with her first goal of the season off a pass from senior Gaby de Kock.
  • Junior Merel Dupont added one more with eight minutes remaining in the game off a pass from senior Noor Coenen after the Eagles' third and final corner of the game.
SEEKING PERFECTION
  • American stands alone as the only undefeated team left in the Patriot League with three conference games remaining in the regular season.
  • The Eagles have had nine undefeated Patriot League seasons since joining the conference in 2001. The most recent was in 2019 en route to the program's 11th Patriot League title and berth into the NCAA Tournament Opening Round.

IN THE RANKINGS

  • After opening the season with five ranked opponents in their first eight games, the Eagles finally broke into the NFHCA Division I polls on Sept. 28 at No. 25.
  • This was the first NFHCA ranking for AU since 2019 when they took over the 25th spot heading into the Patriot League Tournament, then bumped up to No. 23 a week later just before the NCAA Opening Round at Fairfield.
  • AU has continued to climb up the rankings over the last couple of weeks, bumping up to No. 23 on Oct. 5, then No. 22 on Tuesday.
  • The latest ranking (No. 22) is the team's highest since 2017 when they peaked at No. 20 in September.
GO AHEAD, TAKE A BOW
  • Now in her fifth season, senior Noor Coenen is continuing to milestones in the program record books. Already a two-time All-American, Coenen earned her third consecutive Patriot League Preseason Offensive player of the Year nod this season and holds four NFHCA All-Region honors and two Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year awards.
  •  In fact, she is one of four Eagles to have earned back-to-back PL Player of the Year honors and is one of only seven players in league history to have won both Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year in a career. With the award last season, she now stands as one of only three players in conference history to have earned two Player of the Year awards after also being selected as Rookie of the Year.
  • Coenen is continuing to make her case this season and has the potential to reach an entirely new stratosphere with a third consecutive Patriot League Player of the Year selection.
  • She currently ranks fourth among active Division I players for career goals (50), is sixth for both points (126) and points per game (1.75), and 10th for goals per game (0.69).
  • Coenen has also continued to climb through the program record books in both career points and goals, and has just entered her third all-time top-10 list after pitching in her 26th career assist against Lehigh. She currently sits alone in fourth for career points, ties with Irene Schickhardt ('08) for fourth in goals, and sits next to Heather Maranzano ('05) for 10th in assists.
PROTECT THIS HOUSE
  • Anchored by sophomore goalkeeper Bryn Underwood and senior defenders Georgia Davies and Maura Phelan, the Eagles' back line has continued to be one of the toughest in the Patriot League.
  • American currently ties with Holy Cross and Lafayatte with three shutouts this season and ranks second beyond the Leopards with a 1.50 goals against average.
  • Underwood, the returning Patriot League Rookie of the Year, has been having a breakout season, besting her previous single-game high with 10 saves against Lafayette then 11 against No. 9 Maryland. She currently leads the league with a .789 save percentage and ranks second with a 1.449 goals against average and 5.60 saves per game.
  • Davies, the defending Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, is coming off her first Defensive Player of the Week award of the season after she led AU's back line during the 2-0 shutout against Lehigh on Saturday.
