Wrestling Falls 26-19 to Bucknell in Final Home Match

WASHINGTON - Despite a big win for the only senior on Senior Day, American University wrestling came up short in a 26-19 loss to Bucknell in the Eagles' final home dual of the season. AU drops to 3-7 overall and 3-5 in the EIWA, while the Bison improve to 8-4 for the year and 7-1 in the conference.

MATCH RECAP

Each team won five bouts on the day but too many bonus points for Bucknell made the difference, with the Bison getting pins at 133 and 197.
AU won three of the first four for an early lead, starting with a come-from-behind victory for #24 Gage Curry (125) on his birthday. Curry trailed Geo Barzona 3-2 before a late takedown and back points in the final 20 seconds gave him a 6-3 decision.
Closing out the first period with four back points put #26 Sal Profaci (141) up 11-1 on his AU Senior Day, and he only improved from there. In the second period, Profaci continued to dominate and the match ended in a 19-1 technical fall victory.
The success continued with #7 Kizhan Clarke (149), who led Bucknell's Matt Kolonia just 2-1 after the first, but exploded for a 14-3 major decision in the end.
Trouble in the middle of the lineup was costly for the Eagles, who gave up a 12-6 lead with losses at 157, 165 and 174.
#23 Tanner Harvey (184) ended the drought with a solid win over Frankie Guida, Jr., getting a crucial point for riding time in a 14-6 major decision.
Niko Camacho (285) ended things on a high note with a 3-1 decision in the final bout, also getting a point for riding time.
