WASHINGTON – The American University women's lacrosse team, currently in its first year under head coach
Lindsay Teeters, announced on Friday that seniors
Kendall Goldblum,
Cate Golden, and
Emma Vinall were selected as team captains for the 2021 season.
"I couldn't be more excited to share that Kendall, Cate, and Emma have been selected by their teammates to lead this squad for the 2020-21 year," Teeters said.
"Kendall is a three-time captain and brings a wealth of knowledge from her previous years of leading this program. I know she'll step right back into this role with ease," Teeters continued. "Cate is a force defensively. She is a true leader by example and someone the team really respects because of her work ethic and passion. And as the program's first All-American, I'm excited for Emma to not only lead this team with her play but with her voice and desire to make those around her better."
The trio will enter their senior season after helping lead the Eagles during a historic performance last year. Although cut short, the squad walked away with the program's first undefeated nonconference record at 7-0, and a slew of new personal and program records, including Vinall's single-game AU record of nine goals during the 19-9 win over Presbyterian.
Vinall and Goldblum both closed the year ranked in the upper tier of Division I in several categories. Goldblum was eighth in goals per game (4.14) and 12th in total draw controls (49) while Vinall led Division I in goals (42), goals per game (6.0), and ranked third for points (47) and eighth for total draw controls (55).
Vinall capped the 2020 season as the program's first All-American, and enters her senior season already in the career record books, ranking second for total goals (128) and fifth for total points (147).
Golden helped lead the team to one of its best defensive outputs in recent years, and was an impact player in the back line as the Eagles closed as one of only eight teams in Division I to end with an undefeated record. AU closed the shortened season ranked first in the country for shots on goal per game (31.86), were second in draw controls per game (20), third in scoring offensive (19.43), fourth in points per game (27.57), and seventh in assists per game (8.14).
