WASHINGTON - The American University field hockey team will host an East Coast-West Coast battle on Thursday as the Eagles welcome UC Davis to Jacobs Complex for a 4 p.m. start.
SERIES HISTORY
- Thursday's game marks the only series debut on AU's schedule for 2019, as the Eagles and Aggies are set to face off for the first time in their programs' histories.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- American is riding some momentum heading into the final weekend before Patriot League play after a 2-0 weekend at the Terrapin Invitational, hosted by Maryland in College Park.
- The Eagles opened the weekend with a 2-1 victory over JMU behind goals from junior Noor Coenen and sophomore Josie Formica. Coenen also scored her first hat trick of the season during the 7-0 trouncing of Towson on Sunday, closing the weekend with 11 points behind her four goals and three assists.
- Coenen, who was voted Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts, tied her career-high with eight points against the Tigers (three goals, two assists).
- Sophomore Georgia Davies also earned a nod from the PL as the Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Eagles' backline to its first shutout of the season. She earned three points for the weekend after a goal and assist against Towson.
- Three other Eagles scored against the Tigers with Formica, junior Gaby de Kock, and sophomore Atina Pagani. Freshman Merel Dupont pitched in the only other assist.
- Senior Caroline Miller posted her career shutout against Towson.
- Coenen leads the team with five goals and four assists for 14 points. She ranks 11th in the NCAA for points per game, 26th for assists per game, and 27th for goals per game.
- Freshman goalkeeper Fiona Minter earned five of the six starts so far this season and is averaging 1.88 goals against and a .500 save percentage.
- American ranks second in the league for scoring margin (0.63) and leads in goals off corners (0.83)
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
- UC Davis is 3-2 on the season after earning its second shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory over Central Michigan on September 10. The Aggies also earned wins over Quinnipiac and Ball State and their only two losses of the season came against ranked teams with No. 25 Michigan State, 2-1, and No. 8 Louisville, 2-1.
- Sara Janetzky paces the Aggie with five points off two goals and an assist, followed by another pair of goals from Shannon Wong.
- Nicola Prebble, Madison Theodore, and Lauren Gengarella round out the goal-scorers with one each.
- Chelsea Bigelow leads the team from the cage with a 0.95 goals against average and 0.868 save percentage. She was selected as the America East Conference Defensive Player of the Week after picking up 14 saves against No. 8 Louisville a day before earning her second shutout of the season.
NEXT UP
The Eagles will a bit of a respite before returning home on Saturday, Sept. 28, to open Patriot League play with a noon start against Bucknell. They will make a quick turnaround and be back at Jacobs on Sunday, Sept. 29, for a 2 p.m. game against Georgetown.
