LEWISBURG, Pa.– Anna Derrow finished 11th in the women's 1-meter diving competition to lead American University performances Thursday at the 2019 Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships, being hosted by Bucknell.
The AU men were seventh in the team standings after the second of four days of competition with 78 points. American was ninth in the women's team standings with 70.
MEET NOTES
• Luke Bennett went 4:36.79 to cut almost eight seconds off his previous season-best in the men's 500-yard freestyle. The mark moved him into 15th on the Eagles' all-time top-16 in the event, adding a mark to that list for only the third time this decade.
• Adam Kawut (4:46.77) and Dillane Wehbe (4:55.81) also had season-bests in the men's 500 free, with Wehbe cutting 14 seconds off his previous-best.
• Sam Fromkin, Garrett Sooter and Yannick Bohbot-Dridi all had season-bests in the 200 IM, led by Fromkin's mark of 1:56.92 to place 23rd.
• All four Eagles – Scott Callander, Langston Carter, Matt Bean and Blaine Johnson – all posted their fastest marks of the season in the prelims of the 50 free. Callander led the group at 21.04, which was 23rd in the morning session.
• AU placed seventh in the men's 400 medley relay, cutting seven seconds off its previous season-best to finish in 3:25.15. The mark was 11th all-time and the best in four seasons for the Eagles. Matt Bean had a career-best 100 backstroke split of 51.38, improving on his mark that was already 12th at AU. Garrett Sooter, Scott Callander and Liam Riebling finished the quartet.
• Derrow, an Eagle sophomore, scored 228.45 points in the finals to improve on her 15th-place finish from a year ago.
• Melissa Burnham cut seven seconds off her season-best in the women's 500 free, while Cami Nourie had her best mark of the year in the 200 IM.
• Ellen Johnson cut a half-second off her season-best and hit a PR of 24.13 in the 50 free. Her mark moved her from 12th to eighth on AU's top-16. Lily Koenig, already on the lists in the backstroke, moved into 14th on the 50 free list with a 24.34 clocking.
• Abby Longstaff, Emily Gill, Hannah Andress and Ally Bachart joined Johnson and Koenig with season-bests in the 50.
• Koenig, Alex Brosvik, Alex Feys and Kyra Manson placed ninth in the women's 400 medley relay to close the evening. The Eagles' time of 3:50.38 was a season-best and sixth-fastest in AU history. Koenig's split of 56.30 in the 100 back was a career-best and improved her mark that was already fourth on AU's top-16.
