WASHINGTON - The American University volleyball team is one win away from getting no worse than a share of the Patriot League regular-season title, and clinching the right to host next week's PL Tournament. The Eagles (21-7, 14-1) won their 14th match in a row, claiming victory in four sets against visiting Holy Cross (5-24, 2-13) by scores of 25-15, 26-28, 25-14 and 25-16.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- AU had four players reach double figures in kills, finishing with 63 team kills compared to 40 for Holy Cross.
- Leading the way was Zeynep Uzen with 17 kills and a hitting percentage of .417.
- Helena Elbaek recorded 11 kills and Aleksandra Sochacka and Vela McBride added 10 apiece. McBride, who also had three blocks, led all players in the match with a hitting percentage of .571.
- AU tallied nearly 20 more digs than Holy Cross, led by Kristen Largay with 19 digs.
- Olivia Wassner was impressive with a double-double of 51 assists and 11 digs along with three service aces.
- The Eagles had a 15-9 advantage in kills in the first set, cruising to 25-16 win.
- Uzen recorded four kills with zero errors in the opening set to lead AU, while Largay posted eight digs.
- AU was never able to find its stride in the second set, trailing the Crusaders most of the way.
- The Eagles fought off a set point with a Wassner/Jeanne Westney block, but ultimately fell 28-26.
- In the third set, it was AU all the way. The Eagles out-hit the Crusaders .519 to .111, doubling them up in kills at 16-8. The final set score was 25-14.
- Holy Cross posted just six kills in the fourth set while AU had 17 including six from Uzen.Â
- The final point of the match was McBride's 10th kill overall and fourth of the final set.

- The Eagles play their final regular season match at home on Saturday, taking on Lafayette for Senior Day at 2 p.m.
