WASHINGTON - The final two regular season matches for the American University volleyball team will take place this weekend at Bender Arena. The Eagles (20-7, 13-1), winners of 13 straight, will host Holy Cross (5-23, 2-12) at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, and face Lafayette (13-17, 2-12) at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16 for Senior Day.
PATRIOT LEAGUE STANDINGS
- AU sits atop the PL standings at 13-1, tied with Colgate. The Eagles own the tiebreaker should the teams both finish with the same record.
- Two wins this weekend will clinch the No. 1 seed and hosting rights for AU, as will a number of other scenarios. The Eagles have a quarterfinal bye no matter what, and conference tournament semifinals and championship are set for Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 23-24.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- AU has won 13 straight matches and has swept its opponents in eight of those victories.
- The Eagles also swept the PL awards this week with junior outside hitter Helena Elbaek being named the PL Player of the Week and freshman outside hitter Zeynep Uzen getting her third PL Rookie of the Week honor this season.
- Uzen came on strong in conference play, and her 3.39 kills per set in PL matches rank sixth in the league.
- Senior Kristen Largay recently set the program's all-time digs record, and now has 1,924 digs heading into the weekend.
- As a team, AU ranks third in NCAA Division I with 1.99 service aces per set.
- Junior setter Olivia Wassner who has had an outstanding season offensively and defensively for AU, ranks third in the nation with 0.64 aces per set. She ranks second in the PL with 9.78 assists per set.
- Freshman middle blocker Onuchi Ndee leads the team and the Patriot League with her hitting percentage of .347.
SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS
- Holy Cross has had a tough season, but last weekend the Crusaders won two in a row to snap a 13-match losing streak.
- Junior libero Sophie VanSeveren ranks third in program history with 1,305 digs.
- Junior middle blocker Katie Kerins recently broke into the top 10 in program history in career kills, now ranking eighth with 726.
- On Oct. 18, AU swept Holy Cross on the road. All-time, the Eagles lead the series 37-1.
SCOUTING THE LEOPARDS
- Lafayette is looking to break a six-match losing streak, with the last three coming in straight sets.
- In the Patriot League, the Leopards rank second in team kills (1,452), team assists (1,315) and team service aces (181).
- Lafayette had a strong stretch earlier in the year with nine straight wins and won two early season tournament titles.
- In AU's earlier match against Lafayette on Oct. 19, the Eagles came out on top 3-1. All-time, the Eagles lead the series 35-1.
SENIOR DAY BIOS
Kristen Largay
- Kristen has had a truly outstanding career for the Eagles.
- She has been a four-year starter at libero for AU and will leave the program with records that may never be passed.
- Her 1,924 digs are nearly 70 more than the previous record set in 1994, while her 4.20 digs per set are far above the previous AU record.
- She was the 2017 Patriot League Libero of the Year and her dig total ranks third in the league this season.
- Kristen is an accounting major and has been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll for the past three years.
Vela McBride
- Vela has been a leader on and off the court for the Eagles in her four-year career.
- With over 600 kills, she's a two-time All-Patriot League second team selection and was the 2016 Patriot League Rookie of the Year.
- Last season, Vela earned her second straight Patriot League All-Tournament Team honor.
- As a sophomore, she finished the year ranked 10th in the nation with a hitting percentage of 41 percent.
- Vela is majoring in health promotion and has dedicated herself to community service throughout her time at AU.
Aleksandra Sochacka
- Socha has played in 109 matches in her career and has put together many impressive performances.
- She had a season-high 20 kills vs. Ole Miss that earned her GEICO Student-Athlete of the Week honors.
- She was also named to the American Volleyball Classic All-Tournament Team earlier this season.
- Socha is a finance major and a three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection.
Jeanne Westney
- Jeanne has made a huge impact at the net for the Eagles.
- She currently ranks seventh in blocks per set in the Patriot League for the second season in her two years with the program.
- Her hitting percentage of 30.5 is one of the best on the team, and she also averages close to two kills per set.
- Jeanne is a public health major and was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll last season.

- Tickets to all AU home volleyball matches are available at the Bender Arena Box Office. General admission seats are $8 for adults and $5 for children. AU students are admitted free with a valid student ID.
