WASHINGTON - Saturday's American University field hockey (10-5, 5-0 PL) match against Lafayette (11-6, 5-0 PL) has been long awaited, as the two undefeated teams in the Patriot League are set to clash for the regular season title and right to host next weekend's Patriot League Tournament.

The game will also serve as the team's Senior Day with the Eagles celebrating the careers of Caroline Miller and Jette Dieckmann

THANK YOU SENIORS
  • Saturday marks the final regular season home match for the Eagles' class of 2020, as seniors Caroline Miller and Jette Dieckmann prepare to close the books on their thrilling careers in the red, white, and blue.
  • Vital members of AU's success over the past few years, Miller and Dieckmann have helped lead the team to an overall record of 46-27, including 19-4 in the Patriot League, with more to come as the Eagles prepare for postseason play.
SERIES HISTORY
  • Despite dropping a 3-1 contest to the Leopards last season, AU has dominated the 26-game series, 18-8. Before that loss, the last time a Lafayette team overcame the Eagles was in 2012 when the Leopards beat out AU in overtime, 2-1, for the Patriot League Tournament title.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
  • American found its rhythm midway through the regular season after a 3-1 win over Bucknell to open the conference season sent the Eagles on a seven-game win streak. Among the victories picked up during that run was a 2-0 shutout against defending PL champion Boston University, and a 7-1 trouncing at Colgate.
  • A thrilling performance against No. 2 Maryland on Tuesday closed the streak after the Eagles fell in a tight battle to the Terrapins, 1-0.
  • Junior Noor Coenen continues to rank among the top in both the Patriot League and Division I with her career-high 34 points off 14 goals and six assists. She leads the PL for goals per game and points per game, and sits in eighth in Division I for both categories.
  • AU has had well-rounded scoring efforts all season, with 13 players contributing to the 40 goals, and 11 adding assists. Sophomore Hannah Moser sits in second behind Coenen with six goals after 15 games, followed by junior Gaby de Kock, senior Jette Dieckmann, and sophomore Aidan Rossman with three each.
  • De Kock is also one of six newcomers to contribute at least one goal so far this season along with sophomore transfer Atina Pagani and freshmen Charllene Boshoff, Megan Hoffman, Julia Kraft, and Abby Kreider.
  • Freshman Fiona Minter has also been a difference-maker for the Eagles this season, as she started all but one game in goal during her debut campaign. She enters the Saturday matinee with a 1.34 goals against average and .620 save percentage.
  • As a team, American leads the Patriot League in goals per game (2.67), points per game (7.0), and scoring margin (1.30).
SCOUTING THE LEOPARDS
  • Lafayette also hit a winning run midway through season, earning six straight before falling to William & Mary, 3-2, in OT. The Leopards had a rocky open, dropping four straight including a 3-2 double OT loss to No. 18 Syracuse, and a 5-0 shutout to No. 20 Liberty. They picked up one ranked victory against No. 25 Monmouth, 2-1 in double OT.
  • Lisa van der Geest paces the team with 21 points this season off seven goals and seven assists, followed closely by Molly McAndrew's 20 points off a team-high nine goals and two assists.
  • Van der Geest ranks second in the PL for assists and third for points while McAndrew sits in third for goals.
  • The Leopards have had 12 players contribute at least one goal and 12 add at least one assist in 17 games.
  • Sarah Parke has led the team from goal in every game so far this season, and ranks first in the league for goals against average (1.33) and shutouts (7).
  • As a team, Lafayette sits in second behind American in scoring margin (0.83), goals against average (1.33), and goals per game (2.29).
The Patriot League Tournament opens with the semifinal round on Friday, November 8, followed by the championship game on Sunday, Nov. 10.
