@AU_FieldHockey Overpowers Towson, 7-0

Box Score

WASHINGTON - The American University field hockey team stretched to a four-game win streak on Friday after a decisive 7-0 victory at home over Towson.

AU now rises to 7-4 on the season (3-1 PL) while Towson continues to skid at 1-12 (0-3 CAA).

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Six Eagles contributed to AU's final tally, starting with the first two-goal effort of the season from senior Rafaela Rubas. Freshman Hannah Moser, sophomore Noor Coenen, junior Jette Dieckmann, and seniors Annaka Groschinski and Megan Benson added a goal each to complete the scoresheet. Coenen also added an assist for three points on the day while freshman Georgia Davies led the team with two and freshman Bethany Fuquay and senior Lucy Whalley added one each.
  • American led Towson across the board with a 12-3 advantage in shots and a 9-1 edge in penalty corners.
  • Senior goalkeeper Maura Jacobs walked away with a pair of saves in 66 minutes of play before freshman Dani Acuna subbed in for her first minutes in goal in the red, white and blue.
  • Towson goalkeeper Mackenzie Peacock earned five saves in 45 minutes of play while Ashleigh Bathras picked up one in the final 25 minutes.
  • The two teams remained knotted at 0-0 until the 18th minute of the first half when Rubas put away her first of the day off a penalty corner insertion from Davies and stop by Coenen.
  • By the end of the half, both Coenen and Benson added unassisted goals to bring the Eagles up 3-0 heading into the break.
  • American was back on the offensive right after the restart and earned an early penalty corner which eventually found Groschinski, who ran it in for her first goal of the season, third of her career.
  • Moser found the back of the cage less than 15 minutes later after Fuquay slotted in a pass in front of the goal.
  • The Eagles earned another penalty corner right after the restart, and it was once again Rubas who capitalized off an insertion from Davies and stop from Whalley.
  • Dieckmann closed the scoring for the day with an unassisted goal in the final three minutes of the game.
