WASHINGTON – Five Eagles, including senior diver Fiona Caulfield, each won a pair of events as American University lost a double-dual swimming and diving meet to Loyola Maryland on Friday at the Reeves Aquatic Center.
Caulfield won both diving events for the Eagles, while freshman Ellie Kight earned her double in the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle. The Greyhounds won the women's meet 157-142.
Junior Scott Callander, sophomore Garrett Sooter and freshman Liam Riebling each won a pair of events for the AU men, who fell 187-111 to Loyola.
Kight went 5:15.43 in the 500 free to win by less than two seconds, while her 10:52.10 earned an 11-second victory.
American got three other victories from their freshman class. Lily Koenig went 59.37 in the 100 back to move into 13th on AU's all-time list. Freshman Abby Longstaff was third in 59.75 and earned the 16th spot in that event.
Freshman Alex Feys debuted in 15th all-time with her win in the 200 butterfly (2:11.02) and Natalie Hamlet is 16th after her 4:38.80 win in the 400 individual medley. Senior Tori Haviland was AU's other individual winner, leading a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 free with Hamlet and sophomore Ryan Jolley.
Callander won both butterfly events for the AU men, going 50.65 and 1:54.73. Sooter dominated the 400 IM to win in 4:23.85 after earning first early in the meet with a swim of 10:10.85 in the 1,000 freestyle.
Riebling won the 200 free (1:47.60) and 500 free (4:56.44) for the Eagles, who got second-place finishes from Sam Fromkin and Sooter in those events. Fromkin won the 200 backstroke for the Eagles, swimming 1:59.98.
American competes next Friday in a dual meet at Howard. The Eagles' next home action will be on Jan. 13, 2018 against Georgetown and George Washington.
