Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – Freshman Kathryn Roncoroni and senior Natalie Konerth scored two goals apiece as American University earned a 7-0 shutout over Lehigh in a Patriot League field hockey match played Saturday.
The Eagles improved to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the PL. American has outscored its two Patriot League opponents by 15-1 in the early portion of the conference schedule.
The Mountain Hawks fell to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in the league. Lehigh dropped its seventh straight match.
Sophomore
Maura Jacobs made six saves in earning her second shutout of the season.
The Eagles went ahead with 8:19 gone in the first half when Bowcutt converted a rebound off a shot by
Lucy Whalley.
With 13:34 remaining before halftime, DiGiandomenico deflected in a shot off Lehigh goalkeeper Paige Innarella, giving the Eagles a 2-0 halftime lead.
Marsh put home a loose ball in in front of the goal with 3:10 gone in the second half. Konerth then scored twice, converting a penalty corner from
DiGiandomenico and
Rafaela Rubas, then putting home a pass from Marsh.
Roncoroni scored AU's final two goals, getting a pass from
Samantha McCormick, then converting a loose ball in front for an unassisted score.
American finished with a 27-11 edge in shots, including 16-7 in the second half. Innarella had eight saves for Lehigh.
The Eagles host 13th-ranked Princeton on Sunday at 2 p.m., as AU's Office of Sustainability will be on site to host a fair and information session.
