Belo Earns GEICO - AU Student-Athlete of the Week

A blend of well-planned training and the determination to run the best race of the season at just the right time brought Brianna Belo a victory Saturday in the women's 800-meter run at the Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

It also earned the sophomore from Philadelphia the selection as this week's GEICO AU Student-Athlete of the Week.

Belo cut five seconds off her career-best in winning the PL title in the 800. She ran 2:08.23 in Saturday's final, holding the lead through the entire final lap to earn the victory.

The win came despite Belo coming into the event with the seventh-best time in the league.

Her breakout performance also snapped AU's school record of 2:09.79, set in 2006 by Zaia Wharton. Belo already owns the school record outdoors in the 400 at 57.05, set last season.
