WASHINGTON – Courtesy of a victory in the first outdoor track meet of the spring, Adriana Hooks has been selected as the GEICO – AU Student-Athlete of the Week.
Hooks, a freshman from Williamsburg, Va., won the women's 3,000-meter run last weekend at the Coastal Carolina Invitational. Her mark of 10:19.40 was the seventh-fastest in school history.
The GEICO award is the first of her career and she became the first women's track student-athlete to win the honor this season.
Last week, senior wrestler John Boyle earned the honor by posting American University's top individual finish at the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championships.
Boyle finished second in the 157-pound bracket at the conference meet, earning a berth in this weekend's NCAA National Championships at Madison Square Garden.
