Konerth's Hat Trick Lifts No. 19 Eagles on All-American Weekend

WASHINGTONNatalie Konerth earned her second hat trick of the season to lift No. 19 American to a 6-1 Patriot League field hockey win over Colgate on Saturday at Jacobs Field.

The Eagles won their fourth straight match in improving to 11-4 overall and 5-0 in league play. AU currently sits in first place in the league with one match to play, next Saturday at home against 13th-ranked Boston University.
 
The Raiders fell to 1-15 and 0-5 in the league.
 
AU took control of the game right from the opening whistle, putting up 18 shots to Colgate's one in the first half. By the game's close, the Eagles had a season-high 33 shots.
 
Konerth's other hat trick came on Sept. 17 in an 8-1 win at Holy Cross. The senior forward from Huntingtown, Md., now has eight goals in five league matches this season.
 
It was freshman Kat Roncoroni, though, who got the scoring started for the Eagles, taking an assist from senior Jess Davis seven minutes into the first half. Konerth put away the second goal of the game for AU, taking a cross from junior Leah DiGiandomenico at the 14-minute mark.
 
Freshman Emily Hogan closed the scoring for the first half with a pass from junior Anne Waverly Spencer, putting AU up 3-0.
 
Konerth put away a pair of quick goals within the first five minutes of the second half, receiving assists from Rafaela Rubas and DiGiandomenico, respectively.  
 
Colgate responded eight minutes later with a goal by Hennie Cabuhay, breaking the Eagles' five-goal run in the 48th minute.
 
Senior Natalie Marsh closed the game's scoring with a converted penalty corner from Rubas in the 57th minute.
 
Junior Alexandra Morris and sophomore Maura Jacobs both saw time in the net for the Eagles, with Morris entering the match in the final 13 minutes.
 
AU will be back at home on Sunday, taking on No. 8 Delaware at Jacobs Field at 1:30 p.m.  Delaware enters the match on a 10-win streak with an overall record of 14-2.
