Appalachian State at American
After splitting a pair of road games last weekend, the American University field hockey team returns home Friday to host the AU Tournament as Brown and Appalachian State come to Jacobs Field.
American faces Brown at 1 p.m. Friday, with the Bears taking on the Mountaineers on Saturday at noon. The action concludes with AU and Appalachian State playing Sunday at 1:00.
Coming off a 3-2 win at 16th-ranked Old Dominion last Sunday, the Eagles seek to continue their work at blending a talented and deep group of newcomers with a core group of veterans.
Natalie Konerth had a pair of assists to also log a two-point weekend, with
Angela Virtu getting an assist putting six different Eagles on the scoresheet.
Against Richmond, DiGiandomenico scored the game's first goal, but the Spiders tied the game with 10 minutes left and won on a penalty corner in the eighth minute of overtime.
American trailed 2-1 early in the second half when Konerth assisted on a pair of AU scores. She set up McCormick to tie the game at 50:46 and Lonsky for the eventual game-winner with 9:14 left.
Despite facing a 22-8 deficit in shots, the Eagles rode eight saves by
Kate McBeath to the win. The senior was the Corvias Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week after getting 15 saves in the two games.
Brown has yet to play in 2015 and returns four of its top five point leaders from a year ago in seniors Alexis Miller, Emily Arciero and Hannah Rogers, and junior Jaclyn Torres.
The Bears, 9-8 last season, will be without career standouts Meghan O'Donnell, the school's all-time leading scorer, and Shannon McSweeney, who holds the school record for career saves.
Appalachian State is also 1-1 in the early going, having lost 8-1 at 12th-ranked Louisville before beating Missouri State 6-4.
Senior Caroline Philliips leads the Mountaineers in points (6) and goals (2), while sophomore Taylor Cimbalist already has three assists and junior Jordan Van Cleave has four points.
Senior Christina Ceppi has played both games in the Appalachian State goal.
