AU Offense Sharp in Win over VCU

WASHINGTON, D.C.Jordan Harrington had eight points, including five assists, while Jessica Wojciechowski scored five goals as American University beat VCU, 20-9, in a women's lacrosse exhibition match Saturday at Jacobs Field.

Olivia Mangan, Terese Buechli, Madison Hoon and Jamie Silverman each had two goals to go with the hat tricks from Wojciechowski and Harrington. Buechli and Mangan each added a pair of assists for the Eagles.
Sky Hyatt scored five goals for the Rams, who are in the final transition phase from club to varsity status. VCU will play its first varsity season in 2015-16.
 
Hyatt scored on a free-position shot to bring VCU within 6-5 with 13:28 left before halftime. But Harrington scored twice as American went on a run that gave the Eagles an 11-6 halftime lead.
 
Hoon then scored her two goals within the opening 3:27 of the second half, part of a 5-1 run that spanned the first 10 minutes after halftime and gave the hosts a 16-7 edge.
 
American held a 33-14 edge in shots and a 26-14 advantage in ground balls.
 
The Eagles open their 2015 regular season on Saturday, Feb. 14 at Wagner. American's home opener is on Feb. 25 in a 3 p.m. matchup against UMBC.
