AU Sweeps Men's Distance Events at UMES Meet

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – American University runners swept the men's distance events Saturday at the Nelson Townsend Invitational, hosted by Maryland-Eastern Shore.

Brendan Johnson won the 3K in 8:35.54, Tom Woermer captured the 5K in 15:42.85 and Alaeldin Tirba won the mile in 4:23.30.

Jim Belfatto went 1:56.78 to finish third in the men's 800, posting the best mark of the season by an Eagle in that event. Liam May was sixth (1:59.45) in the 800.
 
On the women's side, junior transfer Kinnari Badger again shaved time off her school record in the 200, going 26.44. Teammate Brianna Belo ran 26.63, moving into second all-time at AU in her first 200 appearance of the season.
 
Anisa Santiago had a career-best in the women's 400, with her mark of 1:03.04 keeping her in fifth on AU's all-time list indoors.
 
Corina Velazco (4th, 2:23.56) and Kelseagh Budris (5th, 2:24.20) ran AU's best two marks of the season in the women's 800. Velazco's mark moved her into seventh on AU's indoor list all-time.
 
Reagan Kolakowski (5:15.64) and Judy Mabone (season-best 11:07.09) each finished second in the mile and 3,000, respectively.
 
American will take next weekend off before competing in the Patriot League Indoor Championships, to be held Feb. 20 to 22 at Navy.
