WASHINGTON – Senior Paris Wood won two events and joined her backstroke teammates in victory to highlight American University performances Friday at the Potomac Relay Invitational held at the Reeves Aquatic Center.
Wood joined with sophomore
Tori Haviland to win the 2x500-yard freestyle relay for one of the Eagles' relay wins. They covered the 1,000 yards in 10:28.20 to win by seven seconds.
AU finished third in the women's team standings with 84 points. George Mason finished first with 108 points, with Towson second at 96 and Georgetown fourth with 80.
The Patriots also won the men's team battle, scoring 120 points. Towson was second with 98, Georgetown had 88 and the Eagles had 60 points.
AU's top event finish on the men's side also came in the 3x100 backstroke relay, where freshmen
Christopher Reichert and
Sam Fromkin joined junior
Kilian Korth for second place in 2:41.43. Mason won the event in 2:37.77.
American competes next Friday and Saturday with Loyola Maryland and Catholic University. The teams swim at Loyola on Friday and will be at AU on Saturday in sessions at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
