LANDOVER, Md. – Senior Tom Woermer and freshman Samuel Doud finished first and third in the men's 3,000-meter run Saturday to lead American University performances at the Terrapin Indoor Invitational.
Woermer covered the 3,000 in 8:42.42, his best mark of the season. Doud was eight seconds behind and sophomore placed seventh to give the Eagles a strong showing in that event.
AU earned a 3-4-5 finish in the men's mile and put five runners in the top 10 in that event. Sophomore
Brendan Johnson was third in 4:17.66, freshman
Jim Belfatto improved his season-best to 4:19.59 and freshman
Alaeldin Tirba was fifth in 4:22.80.
Josh Ellis and
Nathaniel Edenfield were ninth and 10th in the mile.
Freshman
Liam Purdy ran the best 800 for the Eagles so far this year, placing third with his clocking of 1:57.03. Sophomore
Liam May also got a top-10 finish.
Belo finished eighth in the women's 400 in 1:00.00, cutting 0.22 seconds off her school record set last week at George Mason.
Velazco (5:13.10) and Kolakowski (5:17.13) had strong individual efforts in the mile, posting the second- and fourth-best marks among the collegiate runners, with Kolakowski making an eight-second improvement.
Junior
Kelseagh Budris ran her first 800 of the season in 2:25.90, while AU assistant coach
Kerri Gallagher won the event while running for the NYAC, finishing in 2:10.60.
American competes next in a pair of events on Jan. 30 and 31, traveling to the Armory Collegiate Invitational in New York City and the Patriot Games at George Mason.
