CENTER VALLEY, Pa.
- American University field hockey player Grace
Wilson was selected as the Patriot League Corvias
Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday
afternoon.
Wilson, who was also chosen as the
GEICO AU Student-Athlete of the Week, earns the league award for
the third time this season and ninth in her career.
A senior from Ann Arbor, Mich.,
Wilson anchored a solid defensive effort as the Eagles defeated a
top-20 opponent for the third time this season, knocking off
19th-ranked Cornell, 1-0.
All six of AU's victories
this season have come by shutout, as the Eagles rank second
nationally in shutouts per game and total shutouts.
Also receiving recognition from the
Patriot League for their performances this past weekend were junior
midfielder Jess Davis, who tallied
American's gamewinner against the Big Red, and junior
goalkeeper Kate McBeath, who stopped six shots by
Cornell.
The Eagles are back on the road
this weekend, Oct. 11, as they visit Lafayette in Patriot League
action.
